Ubisoft has a lot of feathers in its cap when it comes to popular game IP, and besides the development of a Star Wars game, the studio had announced last December that they would be remaking the classic 2000s game Splinter Cell. While we haven’t gotten any major updates on the game, it seems that the studio has been caught in a major snag.
According to Video Games Chronicle, David Grivel, the longtime Ubisoft director who was announced to helm the Splinter Cell remake, had left Ubisoft. He posted on his LinkedIn saying, “time for me to go on a new adventure.”
Grivel had worked for Ubisoft Paris before moving on to Ubisoft Toronto, and he’s worked on Far Cry games from 4-6, to Assassin’s Creed Unity and Splinter Cell Blacklist. With such a history with the company, it’s not clear why Grivel would leave the Splinter Cell remake, but it has been said that Ubisoft was looking for a scriptwriter to update the story of the game for the ‘modern-day audience.’
If anything, this remake would have been Splinter Cell’s first mainline entry in nearly a decade, with Blacklist coming out in 2013. There were attempts at bringing the IP to mobile, but with the nature of the original games, a lot of fans had been disappointed that Sam Fisher hasn’t been able to get a title around the latter 2010s.
No release date has been announced for the Splinter Cell remake, but hopefully Ubisoft finds someone to take over before the year ends.
