Ubisoft may have delayed their pirate game Skull and Bones, but developer Mimimi Games has a different, mythical take on the genre.

Take Control of Ghost Pirates in Cinematic Reveal for Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew

Check out the cinematic reveal trailer for Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew:

The description reads:

Welcome to the Lost Caribbean! In this stealth strategy game, join a ghost ship with a living soul and assemble a cursed pirate crew. Embrace magical powers to defy the menacing army of the Inquisition, who stands between you and the mysterious treasure of the legendary Captain Mordechai.

The game pretty much runs with the idea of ghost pirates from Pirates of the Caribbean, and the mcguffins that the characters are after are all called ‘Black Pearls’ While we only get a look at three crew members and their powers in the cinematic trailer, it’s confirmed that you’ll actually be able to take control of a total of eight characters, each with their own unique ability.

Here’s the gameplay:

It looks like a lot of fun, and should be a nice break from the usual third-person, action-platformer that Sea of Thieves and Skull and Bones are aiming for. The character design looks fantastic, and if this manages to get off the ground, I wouldn’t actually mind a Shadow Gambit animated film.

No specific release date has been announced for Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew, but the game is expected to launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC sometime this year.
