A lot of fans weren’t sure when Daedalic Entertainment announced their Gollum game, but some fans kept an open mind for this new take on the Middle-earth of J.R.R. Tolkien. Flash-forward to today, and multiple critics have been talking about how awful the game was at launch; and now the developers have issued an apology online.

Team Behind Lord of the Rings: Gollum Apologizes After Poor Launch

This was the post from Daedalic:

Despite the well-established IP and new take on characters, Gollum had been bashed for what some have called outdated platforming, and critics have been saying that the game doesn’t really pose much of a challenge when it came to any of its quests or sneak missions.

Gollum is just one of several games that have had its developers deliver apologies online this year for a lackluster launch. Other titles that release public statements include Forspoken, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and The Last of Us Part One.

We don’t know how Daedalic plans to fix the game, but they’re very welcome to try. Cyberpunk 2077 was able to regain some interest a few years back thanks to the Edgerunners anime; maybe Gollum can ride on the hype behind the Amazon Rings of Power series or the upcoming animated film The War of the Rohirrim.

It’s going to be a long wait though.

Here’s the description for the game:

Discover Daedalic’s untold story through a trailer featuring Gollum’s extraordinary adventure in search of his Precious. This original story will take you to several places in Middle-earth, where you’ll meet well-known characters from the books of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Lord of the Rings: Gollum is now available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4|5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
