Dontnod announced today that Tell Me Why, which dropped late last summer, is now being made free for the entire month of June to celebrate Pride Month. Starting right this very moment, those on Xbox and PC can download all three episodes of game at no charge via the Microsoft Store and Steam.
“Since Tell Me Why’s release late last summer, the team at DONTNOD and Xbox Game Studios Publishing have been humbled by and deeply grateful for the many gamers – especially trans and queer gamers – who have found understanding and hope in our game,” the studio wrote. “We’ve received heartfelt messages from players all over the world about how Tyler’s homecoming as a trans man and Alyson’s struggle with trauma have impacted them, encouraged them, or made them feel a little less alone, especially amid the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic and pervasive transphobic rhetoric in places like the United States and the United Kingdom.”
I played through Tell Me Why a few months ago and really enjoyed my time with it. The title is classic Dontnod, right down to the intense focus on narrative and the light puzzle solving you do throughout. I also really appreciated the way Dontnod approached the characters — especially Tyler.
It’s great that the game is being made available for more players now, though somewhat surprising that it’s happening so quickly! The release date for the first episode was Aug. 27, 2020, and the remaining two episodes came pretty quickly afterward. It really speaks to how committed Dontnod is to celebrating Pride, and to helping LGBTQIA+ individuals see themselves represented in games. If you haven’t played Tell Me Why yet, make a note to download it before the month of June comes to a close.
