December may be the time for warm and fuzzy holidays, but Striking Distance Studios has something else in mind with the launch of Callisto Protocol.

The Callisto Protocol Shows Off Some Terrifying Monsters in New Gameplay Footage

Some new gameplay footage has been revealed for the sci-fi horror game, and it pretty much feels like the spiritual sequel to Dead Space. Watch this:

While Dead Space does have players fumbling with futuristic building tools to take out necromorphs, it seems that we’ll have another unique arsenal of weapons to go up against the creatures of Callisto Protocol.

Like we’ve seen in past previews, the creatures in this game are all grotesque and have a different kind of body horror to them. You can’t take them out like regular zombies either because they’ll just end up regrowing their parts, including their heads. I mean, even The Last of Us didn’t have creatures that were that tough to get rid of.

Hopefully we get to see more of the game soon.

In this narrative-driven, third-person survival horror set 300 years in the future, the take on the role of Jacob Lee – a victim of fate thrown into Black Iron Prison, a maximum-security penitentiary located on Jupiter’s moon, Callisto.

When inmates begin to transform into monstrous creatures, the prison is thrown into chaos. To survive, Jacob must battle his way to safety to escape Black Iron Prison, while uncovering the dark and disturbing secrets buried beneath the surface of Callisto.

Using a unique blend of shooting and close-quarters combat, Jacob will need to adapt his tactics to combat the rapidly evolving creatures while scavenging to unlock new weapons, gear, and abilities to outrun the growing threat and escape the horrors of Jupiter’s Dead Moon.

Callisto Protocol launches for PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4|5 on Dec. 02.
