Fans of The Elder Scrolls who also own next-gen consoles are getting a real treat today. The Elder Scrolls Online: Console Enhanced is now live, which means an updated version of the game for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 that introduces numerous visual enhancements, faster load times, and more.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Console Enhanced is now live

To me, the big draw here is The Elder Scrolls Online‘s new performance mode. For the first time on console, the game will be able to run at 60 FPS, adding some responsiveness and fluidity to the game not seen before on either Xbox or PlayStation.

If you’re more into sweet visuals, you can always opt for the 30 FPS mode and get those. Player choice is a beautiful thing. For me, I’m all about the frame rate these days, and this update is going to get me back into ESO for the first time in a while.

Of course, that’s not all The Elder Scrolls Online: Console Enhanced is packing. There are a whole host of upgrades to the experience coming to Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, such as improved ambient occlusion, screen space global illumination, better shadows, and improved depth of field.

And I mentioned the load times before — that particular upgrade is going to be pretty big in terms of getting you into the game faster, and letting you travel around the world of ESO much more quickly. As someone playing through Mass Effect Legendary Edition, I’m pretty blown away at how the next-gen has greatly reduced some of the most torturous load times I’ve ever experienced (those elevator rides though). I’m glad to see ESO getting the same treatment.

As mentioned, this update is live now and can be downloaded on your Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5. If you’re not immediately seeing it, try restarting your console, then check one more time.
