While we have no official announcement for The Last of Us Part III, Naughty Dog is gearing up for the release of a remake of the first TLOU. The studio has already gotten some criticism for it, with some calling it a cash grab, but developer Robert Morrison begs to differ.

The Last of Us Part I Dev on Why the Remake is More than Just a Cash Grab

On Twitter, Morrison specifically states how the remake of Part I is more than just your average remake. He posts:

While we did get a remastered version of The Last of Us for the PS4, the trailer for the remake has proven that this upcoming version is going to feature a graphical upgrade that’s similar to The Last of Us Part II. What’s more, they’ve also enhanced the AI as well as improved the combat system.

As for the $70 price tag, I think all the changes to the original game can probably justify it. I mean, even if it is the same story, the overall gameplay experience is expected to change—and that’s where players will be spending most of their time anyway.

Though the game had released back in 2013, you have to applaud The Last of Us for aging this well. If anything, this remake should be a nice new entry point for anyone who hasn’t tried out the games yet, and it should also be a great improvement for players who loved the original version.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see until release to see what the audience really thinks.

Catch The Last of Us Part I Remake when it comes out for PlayStation 5 this September 2. A PC release date is yet to be announced.
