With the loud internet fanbase angry at the release of The Last of Us Part II, fans were wondering if Naughty Dog was going to pull a Star Wars and cancel any future plans for Part III. Though we don’t have an official announcement though, a rumor is going around that the next TLOU game could be on the way.
As per @ViewerAnon (via @NaughtyNDC), Naughty Dog is already in production for The Last of Us Part III. We don’t have any details besides that, but they do say that Neil Druckmann is once again at the helm:
Though a lot of fans were hyped for the release of The Last of Us Part II, early leaks had led the fanbase to revolt online against the game after it was revealed that the game was going to kill Joel and make players don the shoes of his killer, Abby, for half of the game.
Admittedly, the toxicity about Part II is quieter now, but when the game launched, you couldn’t go to any comment board without anyone complaining about it. Even comments for Ghost of Tsushima were just talking about how much better it was than The Last of Us Part II.
Personally I loved the game, and I think it was a really interesting experiment in empathy that video games have yet to try before.
We don’t know where Part III could go, but I’m hoping for more of these emotional narrative explorations. Fingers crossed they bring Abby back.
The Last of Us Part III has not been officially announced. The Last of Us Part II is currently playable for PlayStation 4|5.
