It’s going to be a while before the release of the second season of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Amazon Prime Video, but we have an update on a game focused on one of the franchise’s favorite antagonists.
As per Nacon Financials (via @MauroNL3), we should expect The Lord of the Rings: Gollum to release sometime between April and September 2023. Here’s the post:
We don’t have any specifics as to the delay, but the game was originally set to come out in 2021. With Midde-earth known to be an expansive fantasy world with adaptations being lauded for visuals, you can imagine the pressure on Daedalic Entertainment to deliver something visually dazzling, even if the property wants to focus on one of the least dazzling characters in the entire Tolkien lore.
Admittedly, having a game centered on Gollum seemed kind of odd when it was first announced, but I’m willing to check out this new interpretation of Tolkien’s famous IP. It should keep us satiated while we wait for Rings of Power to come back.
Here’s the official description:
Experience the untold story in The Lord of the Rings™: Gollum™, a story-driven action RPG where our twisted protagonist is on a quest to regain the only thing precious to him. Torn by his fractured psyche, players will have to manage both Sméagol and Gollum on a journey that will take him across famous locales, revealing more about his time as a slave below the Dark Tower and his stray with the Elves of Mirkwood, as he interacts with iconic characters from the series.
No specific release date has been announced for Lord of the Rings: Gollum, but the game is expected to launch for all major platforms sometime later this year.
