Square Enix’s Forspoken may not have kept its 2022 release date, but we don’t have to wait too long for its release in early 2023.
Just in, we have a new look at gameplay that has protagonist Frey jumping around the world of mythical world of Athia:
Get an in-depth look at the adventure that awaits you in the world of Athia. Learn how to master powerful magic abilities, navigate treacherous terrain, and defeat formidable, corrupted foes as Frey in Forspoken.
As you can see, the game is a full-on isekai story with a protagonist from the modern world thrust into a fantasy setting. Forspoken does promise a huge playground in the form of the world of Athia, and Frey does have a variety of interesting powers that not only allow her to take down enemies, but traverse the world as well. And since this is a Square Enix game, we should always expect a lot of those bright and colourful effects whenever Frey does an attack–not too different from the battle FX we see in games like Final Fantasy and even the Avengers game.
With Frey being a brown girl with a magic bangle, she certainly does have a similarity with Marvel superhero Kamala Khan a.k.a. Ms. Marvel. I guess it’s also worth mentioning that Square did work on Kamala in their Avengers game, only that version had stretchy powers rather than the MCU version who could control ‘hard ljght.’
Forspoken is set to launch for PS5 and PC on Jan. 24, 2023.
