A few weeks ago we had our first look at the gameplay for the upcoming SpongeBob game, The Cosmic Shake, and now IGN has dropped a full 13 minutes of gameplay for this nostalgia-fuelled platformer.
Check this out:
Though the game has teased multiple different versions of SpongeBob and Patrick to be playable, this new footage only has SpongeBob traversing some kind of Wild West world. Not only does SpongeBob gets an alternate costume, but other characters from Bikini Bottom as well.
Also, this isn’t officially confirmed, but I’m wondering if the Cactus Juice in the game is supposed to be a reference to another Nickelodeon show—Avatar: The Last Airbender.
So far, Cosmic Shake looks like a PS2-era platformer, and it should be good fun for kids who are new to games. I guess when it comes to adults, they’ll love the deep cut references to the earlier episodes of the series. Maybe there’s some stuff in there for the younger fans as well.
Wish-granting Mermaid’s Tears in the hands of SpongeBob and Patrick… What could possibly go wrong? Sure, the very fabric holding the very universe very together could come very undone, opening up portals into Wishworlds full of knights, cowboys, pirates, and prehistoric snails. But that’s nothing everyone’s favorite sponge can’t handle – with the right cosmic costume! Everybody do the Cosmic Shake!
No release date has been announced for SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, but we should expect it to release for Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, and PC sometime this year.
