Artillery is an indispensable part of modern warfare, and World of Tanks demonstrates this beautifully. Not many games pay as much attention to tank design and specifications as it does. If you are interested, the game is free on various platforms.

How to Play World of Tanks

You do not need to worry about those who are unsure what to do after installation. This game guide can help you learn the basic mechanics for a strong start. Here, we will gather all the initial tasks in one place.

Download the Game First

World of Tanks is available on these platforms:

  • PC
  • macOS
  • PS4
  • PS5
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • Xbox One
  • Xbox 360

You might be wondering why the Xbox 360 is on the list. The answer is that World of Tanks was released in 2010 when said console was popular. Today, many modern platforms support it, even the latest ones.

As a free-to-play game, you can immediately download and install the game on your device of choice. Note that the console and mobile editions have different names, though they are the same game at the core.

Before Combat

Right before you dive into the action, the loading screen will appear. On this screen, you see the current rosters for both teams, and the center of the screen has some essential advice for the game.

After the game loads, the Battle Screen will appear. At the bottom-left corner, you’ll see your vehicle’s current status. The stats displayed are:

  • HP

  • Crew members

  • Hull position

At the bottom center of the screen, you’ll see your munitions. The icons include the types of shells and consumable equipment. If you activate equipment in combat, it’ll also appear there.

The minimap is at the bottom right corner. You’ll rely on it for navigation; we recommend getting used to it immediately.

You can also find both teams’ lineups at the sides of the screen, above the items we just mentioned.

As World of Tanks is a battle of attrition, you get to check the vehicles remaining in your team and the opponent’s team. The score is displayed in the middle.

True Warfare

It’s the start of your artillery career in World of Tanks. You’ll fight against human opponents and learn how to play the game. Besides collecting vehicles, you can make friends and join their Platoons.
