Earlier today, I had every intention of writing as many articles as possible. But then I took a short break, and I decided to see if I could emulate something I’d watched on YouTube last night. I wanted to get into Destiny 2‘s Last Wish Raid area from the Dreaming City’s Patrol Zone. I made it my mission to get out of bounds in Divalian Mists, load into the Kali area, pass that, and then make my way onto the bridge that leads to Shuro Chi.
I did it. Also, four hours passed before I realized how long I’d been messing around in Destiny 2.
Breaking out of bounds in Destiny 2 is equal parts cunning and ability.
You have to know where you can do it, first off. You have to know where the façade of the world cracks ever so slightly so you can squeeze your Guardian through. Once you do, you’ll see a side of the game you’ve never seen before — how the sausage is made, so to speak. How items are layered one on top of the other. Where the game intelligently cuts one zone off and begins to load another.
That’s where things get tricky. You have to be good at moving around. You need to make some tough jumps. You need to use a Super from time to time to get where your normal jumps can’t take you. You need to navigate tight spots, always aware of the many barriers waiting to try and hinder your progress. When you encounter one, you need to put your movement skills to work in order to get around it.
I’m trying to get a sense of where things are — where the game puts them once they’re brought in. I feel like the Kalli arena and the Blind Well, for example, are pretty close to one another if you look at where they connect from Divalian Mists. Based on the map, the Chamber of Starlight Lost Sector also seems to be found in close proximity.
However, all of these do not exist at once as far as the game is concerned. You load into a separate instance for each, and thus the rest of the world becomes very sparse, because you aren’t seeing it. And it seems you’ll can’t really get from one location to another if you aren’t intended to load into from that same zone. Can you get to that Kalli room from the Blind Well? It would appear not. You have to go from Divalian to Blind Well, or Divalian to Tower of Opened Eyes (the Kalli section).
I plan on doing a lot more exploring — perhaps in other places. I know this is well-covered ground at this stage, so I’m not expecting to find anything brand new. Getting out of bounds, though, has enabled me to see things I personally haven’t seen before. These things offer me a bit of insight into how exactly Destiny 2 is put together. Lately I’ve been kind of burned out by the actual activities in the game. But this one? This might keep me busy for a while.
