Apple is typically a few years late to any party, but when it does arrive, it tends to offer a much more polished take on what its competitors have been trying to do. Now, like Samsung and Microsoft before it, Apple appears to be preparing a foldable iPhone for the market to gobble up. Let’s just hope we don’t have to hear “you’re folding it wrong.”

Foldable iPhone could come by 2023

According to the folks at MacRumors, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo told investors that Apple will take its own crack at a phone that can fold up by 2023. The device will reportedly feature “an 8-inch QHD+ flexible OLED display,” which does raise some questions about the form factor the phone will take on. Below, we’ve included a photo of the Kindle Fire 8, just to give you a sense of how large an 8-inch display can be. If the 2023 iPhone can fold a screen like this in half (and hopefully have much less bezel), that’d be one heck of a device.

Unfortunately, there’s no mention of the display the iPhone might use on the outside while in its folded state. It would be rather disappointing if Apple kept you locked away from any type of phone functionality while the device is closed up, and truth be told, that wouldn’t provide for for a very good user experience. I can’t see that happening.

Hopefully more news on that front floats in as Apple progresses with development of 2023’s foldable iPhone. As soon as more details drop, we’ll have them for you.

What it means for you: Foldable phones certainly seem like the future, and if Apple is getting involved in the game, you can bet lots of other companies are going to follow suit. Apple’s entry into this space could dramatically change the way you use your phone in the next few years.
