When it comes to turn-based strategy games, it’s hard not to look back on the Advance Wars franchise fondly. Back when they first released on the Game Boy Advance, they offered some of the best gameplay in the genre, and did so portably. It was always a shame that Nintendo never went back and revisited the series, but fortunately, we got news of a remake today — Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp — along with a Re-Boot Camp release date tossed into the mix.

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp release date - Dec. 3, 2021

Let’s dive more into when this surprise (and frankly much overdue) remake is coming, and what it’ll bring to the table.

The Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp release date is Dec. 3, 2021

Life is slowly heading in the direction of “normal” in many places, which means you could be visiting relatives this holiday season. Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp could arrive just in the nick of time, then, as it’ll drop very early on in December. It may very well end up as your go-to game during long car rides or flights. That is exactly the situation I envision myself playing it in later this year.

As expected, this game will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive. It’ll ring up at price of $59.99 when arrives, so be sure to start pushing change into that piggy bank ASAP.

As the name implies, this remake contains Advance Wars 1 and Advance Wars 2

If you’ve never experienced an Advance Wars game before, or if you’re just eager to try these games in their new and improved form, you may be wondering what you’re going to get in the package. As the eShop store page for the title explains, Re-Boot Camp will contain two distinct campaigns that cover both the first and second game, along with a versus mode that supports up to four players battling at one time.

I’m personally pretty excited to dive back into Advance Wars for the first time in a while, and consider this particular release one of the happy surprises of Nintendo’s E3 2021 Direct. Yeah, there’s a new Metroid on the way. But Advance Wars! And not only that, but a 2021 Re-Boot Camp release date to go with it all! It’s going to be a very happy holiday indeed.
