Niantic’s Pokemon GO has been going strong since it launched back in 2016, and the recent Pokemon Company update has revealed that the game will be getting a major update today.
As per the official announcement, Pokemon GO will be launching Alolan versions of Pokemon on March 1. Here’s the launch trailer:
More Pokémon originally found in the Alola region are coming to Pokémon GO! During the #SeasonOfAlola, look forward to three months of events highlighting Pokémon never before seen in Pokémon GO!
There is actually a full breakdown of the Season of Alola here, and you can research on what kind of Pokemon will be available on specific days, as well as upcoming challenges that will gain you special rewards by the end of the season if you can complete them. The game is also giving players the option of an Alola-themed avatar to keep to the spirit of the season.
For those who don’t know, the Alola Region was heavily inspired by the islands of Hawaii, and the region delivers a new variation of Pokemon with a look that’s inspired by Hawaiian culture. While the game did start with the Alolan version of Exeggutor, we should expect the different Alolan variations of several other Pokemon to come to the game as well.
For the start of the season, the featured Pokemon that will be appearing will be Rowlet, Litten, Popplio, Pikipek, and Yungoos. Shiny versions of the Pokemon will also be available already, so fans better keep an eye out for them if they want to catch them all.
The Season of Alola is set to run from March 01–June 01. Pokemon GO is now playable for Android and iOS.
