Unturned is one of many zombie survival titles out there that players enjoy. Unlike in other games of the genre, crafting and surviving is much more manageable, thanks to the simplified systems. In addition, storing your supplies barely takes time at all.
If you’re new to the game or want a refresher, our guide can help you figure out how to make storage items. From the most basic to the most advanced crates and lockers, you’ll find out all you need to know.
Unturned: How to Make Storage?
Let’s begin with the basics of creating storage. The main point of crafting storage items such as lockers, wardrobes, and more is to let players store their loot without using up inventory space. Your inventory space is limited, even though wearing clothes and backpacks can expand it somewhat.
However, instead of lugging your resources around, you’ll need to reserve most of that inventory space for weapons, ammunition, and healing supplies. The rest of that room will work just fine for carrying loot away.
The basic steps for making storage items in Unturned are:
- Gather the materials and tools needed to make a storage item.
- Open your inventory.
- Go to the Crafting tab.
- Head to the Furniture subsection.
- Scroll down until you find the item of choice.
- Click on it to craft it.
- Place the storage item where you want it to be.
- Drop your hard-earned loot into it.
Some crates and items require you to possess tools. For example, Pine Crates can’t be crafted without a saw in your inventory. You’ll have to find or prepare these tools before making crates for storage.
Out of all the storage items in Unturned, the largest are Metal Wardrobes and Lockers. The Metal Wardrobe has 42 units of storage, while the Locker has 36. One advantage Lockers have is that they can be locked.
Locked storage items are only accessible by the owner or those in their group. Due to this feature, other players who join won’t sneak away with free loot.
Of course, we recommend placing your most valuable items in Lockers. You don’t want anyone stealing them.
Unturned: How to Make Storage Crates?
There are three storage crate variants in Unturned. They are:
- Birch Crate
- Maple Crate
- Pine Crate
All three are practically identical in crafting recipes, though the wood you need varies. Even so, the three crates offer different storage capacities.
Birch Crates have the lowest space, up to 24 units. Maple Crates are in the middle, having 28 slots. As for Pine Crates, they’re the best in class, possessing up to 32 storage units.
Of course, this also means that the better a crate is, the larger it is. The dimensions are:
- Birch Crate (6×4)
- Maple Crate (7×4)
- Pine Crate (8×4)
These crates are accessible by any player, even those bent on killing you and your group.
To make a crate, follow these steps:
- Gather the wood you need.
- Open your inventory.
- Click on the Crafting menu.
- Select the wood.
- Craft seven planks and three sticks.
- Head to the Furniture section.
- Find the crafting recipe of the crate.
- Click on it to craft the box.
Before crafting the crate, you’ll need a saw to break down logs into planks and sticks. You can find one in any Construction Location or Campground. However, if you have two Metal Sheets to spare, you can craft a saw too.
Making storage crates is a great idea, especially if you’re newer to the game. Trees are everywhere, and you can still store plenty of loot without using rarer materials. When you finally have a stable hideout, you can consider moving on to secure forms of storage.
Unturned: How to Make Metal Storage?
If we categorize all the storage items made of metal, we can refer to them as metal storage. These are the category’s items:
- Locker
- Metal Counter
- Metal Wardrobe
- Metal Rifle Rack
- Cooler
- Fridge
Even though you use them for different purposes, these items share one thing in common; their materials are strikingly similar, all each requiring Metal Sheets and Metal Bars in their construction. What’s more, you can only make them with the help of a Blowtorch.
In the real world, working with metal is challenging and complicated, which is reflected in Unturned. You’ll have to increase your Crafting skills to Level III first. Otherwise, making the above items is impossible even if you have the requisite materials and tools.
To make a metal storage item, follow these steps:
- Gather plenty of Metal Scrap.
- Open the inventory.
- Go to the Crafting menu.
- Hold down on the Ctrl key and select the Metal Scrap.
- Hit “Craft All.”
- Go to the Furniture tab.
- Find the recipe you want to use.
- Craft the item by clicking on said recipe.
Interestingly, the Cooler and Fridge don’t affect your food in the slightest. You can place other things inside them, as well.
Metal Rifle Racks are unique in that they display your weapons. The weapon on display can even be rotated for aesthetic reasons.
All metal storage items can be locked as well, except for the Cooler and Fridge. If you don’t like other players rummaging through your stuff, make sure to keep them protected this way. Only allow your friends to access these things.
Additional FAQs
How Do You Make a Metal Sheet in Unturned?
You need to pick up some Metal Scrap, which is a relatively common resource. Two Metal Scraps are all you need to make Metal Sheets. After making some Metal Sheets, you’re now closer to crafting metal objects.
How Do You Lock Boxes in Unturned?
All metal storage items, except for the Cooler and Fridge, have a built-in lock feature. Other boxes can’t be locked, but you can still put them behind locked metal doors. By default, all metal objects are locked, and you don’t have to do anything.
What’s the Best Backpack in Unturned?
Currently, the best backpack players can get in Unturned is the Alicepack. It gives you 56 additional slots to carry loot with. You can only find it in specific locations. Other than the Thick Military Backpack and Thicker Military Backpack, which require cheats and map downloads, nothing else gives as many storage slots.
Can You Lock Non-Metal Storage?
It’s impossible to lock any storage item that isn’t made of metal. If you want to keep it safe, you can always place it behind a metal door. That way, only trusted people can access the contents.
No Touching
The more loot you have, the higher your need for security is. Thankfully, metal storage boxes and lockers are the perfect things for this task. Stop others from making away with your precious items by adding a locked door, too.
