Lord of the Rings is set to come back in a big way this year. Besides the release of the prequel LOTR: The Rings of Power on Amazon, we’re also getting a game called LOTR: Gollum which focuses on fantasy’s most tragic pathfinder.
The game had been announced for a while, but now developers Daedalic Entertainment have given us a good look at the gameplay. Check this out:
Here’s the official description:
Experience the untold story in The Lord of the Rings™: Gollum™, a story-driven action RPG where our twisted protagonist is on a quest to regain the only thing precious to him. Torn by his fractured psyche, players will have to manage both Sméagol and Gollum on a journey that will take him across famous locales, revealing more about his time as a slave below the Dark Tower and his stray with the Elves of Mirkwood, as he interacts with iconic characters from the series.
Though a lot of other Lord of the Rings material tries to emulate the look and feel of Peter Jackson’s films, Gollum is going with its own original direction, giving us original takes on characters like Gandalf, Lord Thranduil, and the Ringwraiths. Even Gollum has been given some patches of hair, rather than his balding look from the films.
Granted a lot of Gollum’s story happens in the background of Lord of the Rings, I’m excited to see what adventures he gets into before the events of the trilogy. Who knows, maybe this game may even follow Gollum to his end on Mount Doom?
Catch Lord of the Rings: Gollum when it comes out Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4|5, PC, and Nintendo Switch on Sept. 1.
