Pokemon Legends: Arceus is set in the old times in the Pokemon world at a time when it was rare to find harmony between people and Pokemon. Set in the land of the Hisui region, known as the Sinnoh region in modern times, you’ll join the Galaxy Expedition Team (or just Galaxy Team for short) as a member of the Survey Corps stationed in Jubilife Village. You will be tasked to meet every species of Pokémon from the Hisui region to complete the region’s first-ever Pokédex.

How to Complete the “Digging for Tomorrow” Request (Request 103) in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

The Galaxy Team will task the player to do missions in the game. Various people will also ask for help from the player in the form of requests. One of these requests is Request 103, titled ‘Digging for Tomorrow.’ This guide will teach you how to complete the ‘Digging for Tomorrow’ request.

Digging for Tomorrow

To unlock this request, the player must first complete the main story of the game with the last mission called “The Counterpart,” which is the 18th mission in the game where the player must defeat and catch Dialga/Palkia and close the Space-Time Rift at the top of Mount Coronet. The player must also update the game to at least version 1.1.0.

After doing the requirements mentioned above, you can now start this request! To do that, head to the Galaxy Hall on the northern side of Jubilife Village and enter Captain Cyllene’s office just ahead of the entrance. On the left side, just as the player enters Captain Cyllene’s office, the player will find a man in green clothing named Kochika. Talk to him, and he will tell the player that he has a favor to ask of the player, which is that he is hoping to dig into the tunnel walls of Oreburrow Tunnel in the Obsidian Fieldlands to see if he can find any good stone there. Still, a Pokemon has been raging about and getting in his way, and it is more than he can handle. Kochika will then ask the player to calm the Pokemon down for him. Confirm on the prompt and Kochika will thank the player and ask the player to head to Oreburrow Tunnel once the player is ready to calm the Pokemon down. Then, the’ Digging for Tomorrow’ request started just like that!

After talking to Kochika, head out of Captain Cyllene’s office and the Galaxy Hall, head to the Front Gate on the northeastern side of the Village, then head to the Heights Camp in the Obsidian Fieldlands. Upon arriving in the area, head to the Oreburrow Tunnel, which is on the eastern side of the map of the Obsidian Fieldlands east of the Heights Camp and Nature’s Pantry or a little bit south of Obsidian Falls (turn on the quest markers to guide you a little bit better by pressing the – button to open the map, press the Y button to open the Missions & Requests menu, press the R button to switch to the Requests tab, select the ‘Digging for Tomorrow’ Request, then press the A button to turn on guidance. The quest marker will appear once you return to the game).

Next, head inside the Oreburrow Tunnel, and in a large and hollow part of the tunnel, the player will find an Alpha Onix. Approach the Onix, and a cutscene will play where Kochika will appear and say that the Onix’s eyes are glowing red which means it is one of the Alpha Pokemon. He will then say that the Alpha Onix rages about so much that he is scared that the Onix might bring the whole tunnel down, which is dangerous.

After that, approach the Alpha Onix again, and another cutscene will play where the Alpha Onix will notice the player and become angry. Then, a battle against the Alpha Onix will commence!

To complete this request, the player must defeat the Alpha Onix to calm it down.

As the player would have to battle the Alpha Onix, it is important to keep in mind that this Alpha Onix is a Level 60 Rock and Ground-type Pokemon, which means it has a weakness in Fighting-type, Ground-type, Ice-type, Steel type, and especially Grass-type and Water-type moves (super effective), resistance to Fire-type, Flying-type, Normal type, Rock type, and especially Poison type moves (not very effective), and immunity to Electric-type moves (no effect).

After defeating the Alpha Onix, Kochika will tell the player that they are as good as they say and that he half-expected the Onix to continue thrashing about after the player defeated it. After selecting an answer on the prompt, Kochika will say that maybe the Alpha Onix was not raging at all but was trying to dig a tunnel which, if it is the case, they should dig together. The Alpha Onix will reply as if to agree, so Kochika will decide that they are now a team. Kochika will then thank the player because the player now has a more dependable partner.

Afterward, Kochika will reward the player with 20 Iron Chunks and 1 Grit Rock for your efforts, and the ‘Digging for Tomorrow’ request is complete!

Kochika will then say that some people are saying they would make statues of Pokemon if they find some quality stone, and Lian of the Pearl Clan also said that they might even find coal in the area. After that, Kochika and his Alpha Onix will start digging!

Now that you have completed the ‘Digging for Tomorrow’ Request, you can try to meet other requests, complete missions, or complete Arceus’ task, which is to catch ‘em all!
