Pokemon Legends: Arceus is set in olden times in the Pokemon world when it was rare to find harmony between people and Pokemon. Set in the Hisui region, modern-day Sinnoh, you will join the Galaxy Expedition Team (Galaxy Team for short) as a member of the Survey Corps stationed in Jubilife Village. You will be tasked to meet every species of Pokémon from the Hisui region to complete the region’s first-ever Pokédex.

How to Evolve Haunter to Gengar in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

In the game, there are certain Pokemon that the player cannot catch or are very hard to catch in the wild. One of the methods to catch these Pokemon is through evolution. One of these Pokemon is Gengar, and in this guide, you will learn how to evolve Haunter into a Gengar!

Haunter to Gengar

Gengar is a Ghost and Poison Type Pokemon with a purple and roundish body, red eyes, pointed ears, and a wide mouth, always grinning. Gengar can possess the shadows of potential victims to steal away the victims’ lives. According to Gengar’s Pokedex entry in the game, if a person’s shadow starts to laugh, then the person must quickly hold on to a protective charm.

As mentioned above, it is tough for the player to catch a Gengar in the wild. The only way for the player to catch a Gengar is by finding one inside a Space-Time Distortion, which is already very rare for a Gengar to appear in one. So, an easier way for the player to catch a Gengar is through evolution. To evolve a Haunter into a Gengar, the player must use a Linking Cord on Haunter. To do that, the player must first know where to find a Haunter.

Haunter can be found in the Crimson Mirelands (around Droning Meadow, Cottonsedge Prairie, Scarlet Bog, Shrouded Ruin, and Ursa’s Ring), in the Coronet Highlands (in the Celestica Ruins, Clamberclaw Cliffs, Sacred Plaza, Bolderoll Ravine, and slightly north of the Fabled Spring), and the Alabaster Icelands (around Bonechill Wastes and east of the Avalugg’s Legacy). Haunter can be found in these locations in every weather condition. However, they can only be found in these areas during the nighttime. If you plan on distracting Haunter with food before catching it, it is worth noting that Haunter’s preferred foods are Springy Mushrooms and Plump Beans.

Suppose you plan on battling Haunter before catching it. In that case, it is important to mention that Haunter is a Ghost and Poison-type Pokemon which means it has a weakness to Dark-type, Ghost-type, Ground-type, and Psychic-type moves (super effective), a resistance to Fairy-type, Grass-type, and especially Bug-type and Poison-type moves (not very effective), and immunity to Fighting-type and Normal-type moves (no effect).

Now that the player has caught a Haunter, all that is needed to evolve a Haunter to a Gengar is a Linking Cord. There are several ways that the player can obtain a Linking Cord:

The player can purchase a Linking Cord for 8,000 Pokemon Dollars from Ginter at the Gingko Guild Shop between the Galaxy Hall and the player’s headquarters. However, Ginter will call it a Mysterious Cord. Unfortunately, the items the Gingko Guild Merchants sell are not the same, so purchasable items may vary. To change the items that Ginter is selling, the player must first catch 20 Pokemon.

The player can purchase a Linking Cord from the Trading Post near the Training Grounds for 1,000 Merit Points. The player can earn Merit Points by returning lost satchels all over the Hisui region.

Other than that, the player may find some Linking Cord on the ground inside of Space-Time Distortions, so check out the items inside them.

Finally, Gengar!

After catching a Haunter and obtaining a Linking Cord, the player can now evolve Haunter into a Gengar!

To do that, this is what the player must do:

  1. Put the player’s Haunter in the Player’s party by talking to the Galaxy Member near the tent on any of the Base Camps, selecting “I want to see my Pokemon” on the prompt, or heading to the Pastures in the eastern part of Jubilife Village.
  2. Then, ensure that the Linking Cord is in the player’s Satchel. If not, the player can access the Item Storage in any of the Base Camps or the Item Storage near the Front Gate in the northeastern part of Jubilife City and move the Linking Cord to the player’s Satchel.
  3. Next, return to the game and press the up directional button to open the player’s Satchel.
  4. Select the Linking Cord, select “Use” on the prompt, then select Haunter from the player’s party to use the Linking Cord on Haunter.
  5. Confirm on the prompt to evolve Haunter. Then, just like that, Haunter will evolve into a Gengar!

Now that the player has a Gengar, the player can try to use the Gengar to complete other requests, missions, or Arceus’ task for the player to catch ’em all!
