FromSoftware may be best known for their dark fantasy games like the recent Elden Ring, but they’re returning to mecha with the gameplay trailer for Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon.

FromSoftware Goes Mecha with Gameplay Reveal for Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon

Check out the insane new trailer:

Here’s the official description of the game:

Combining FromSoftware’s longstanding expertise in mech games with their signature action gameplay, ARMORED CORE VI FIRES OF RUBICON brings a brand-new action experience to the series.

Dynamic, Omni-directional Battles
Players will pilot their mech in fast-paced, omnidirectional battles, taking advantage of massive stages and their mech’s mobility on land and in the air to ensure victory.

Customized Parts for Individual Battle Styles
Customize Armored Core parts to suit a large variety of playstyles. Selecting different parts changes the mech’s attacks and directly affects its movement and battle style
so that each mission can be approached with a unique mech strategy.

Thrilling Boss Battles
Deploy various offensive and defensive tactics at close and long range to take down powerful enemy bosses.

The Armored Core franchise is pretty old and predates Dark Souls, with the first game coming out in the 90s. It’s been a while since the release of the last Armored Core game, with AC5 coming out around 2012.

As we can see from the trailer, FromSoftware embraces the scale of their games, and we look at this massive arena populated with huge mech battles for players to fight. While Elden Ring was said to have ended the Dark Souls franchise for the studio, Armored Core VI could be the start of the developers branching out to different genres moving forward.

Armored Core VI comes to PlayStation 4|5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on Aug. 25.
