The third season of The Great has just premiered on Hulu, and star Elle Fanning is currently promoting the return of the series. Fanning has also been announced to appear in Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2, and she offers a little update on her work on the game.
Talking to the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via GamingBolt), Fanning explains the motion-capture process with stars Norman Reedus and Lea Seydoux. She says, “I worked with all the same people from Avatar, all those guys. It wasn’t the same studio but one of them, like in LA. I had never done it before, and I was… the whole experience, I was like they had to walk me through, and I did it, you know, with Léa Seydoux. She’s in it, and Norman Reedus is the main guy.”
Fanning also talks about working under game director Kojima and how she would have to emote while wearing a clunky mo-cap suit. She continues, “I think, when I signed up for it, I wasn’t sure what it would entail. I didn’t know it would be true acting and scenes and stuff. There are emotional scenes in it, and Hideo’s there, and he’s like, ‘Okay, now you cry,’ and you’re like, ‘Oh, oh my God, okay.’ So, I have to get in the mood but in the whole suit.”
It’s not clear who Fanning’s role will be in the sequel, but it is said that she would be integral to the second game. I was speculating that she would be the playable character this time, but Reedus still has the spotlight.
No release date has been announced for Death Stranding 2, but you can catch Fanning on The Great now streaming on Hulu.
