Silent Hill 2: How to Get the Hunting Rifle (Armory Key)

Learn how to get the armory key and retrieve the powerful Hunting Rifle in Silent Hill 2 Remake.

Like the original game, Silent Hill 2 Remake offers only a limited selection of weapons. Players start with a basic Wooden Plank but quickly upgrade to a Steel Pipe after encountering Maria. As the game progresses, players can also find firearms, which will increase their survival.

There are six weapons in Silent Hill 2 Remake, and one of the most powerful firearms is the Hunting Rifle. Follow our guide to obtain the Armory Key and unlock the gun cabinet to claim the Hunting Rifle.

How to Get Armory Key

To get an Armory Key in Silent Hill 2 Remake for opening the Hunting Rifle cabinet, you first need to collect important items to solve a puzzle found in the Yard of Toluca Prison.

Get the Heaviest Weight in the Chapel

Go to the Chapel in Toluca Prison 1F, just north of the Armory room.
Head up to the altar.
Collect the Heaviest Weight.

Access the Scale in Toluca Prison Park

Once you’ve collected the Heaviest Weight, head out of the chapel. The item will be used on a Scale found at Toluca Prison Park.

Head to the Park through Block B of Toluca Prison 1F Main Section.
Switch on the lights when needed.
Once through the door, continue to the center of the park.
You’ll find a covered statue.
Examine the statue to reveal the Scale.

Open the Headless Serpent Door

To access the next section, you must open the Headless Serpent door. To do this, examine the statue at Toluca Prison Park and interact with the Scale. You will notice that there’s already a Small Weight you can use.

Place the Small Weight on the left side of the Scale.
Place the Heaviest Weight on the right side of the Scale.
The scale hand will point at the Serpent, indicating that the Headless Serpent door is now open.
Head to the Headless Serpent door on Block A.

Overload the Transformer

Opening the Headless Serpent door gives you access to a new section of Toluca Prison where you will find the Medium Weight for the Scale.

The main objective of this section is to overload the Transformer to open the cell rooms. This allows you to cut through and reach the Armory Key room below the Witness Checkpoint.

Go to the Witness Room through the Guardroom.
Keep your guard up. There are plenty of enemies in the area.
Once inside the Witness Room, examine the Transformer on the wall.
Overload the Transformer by flipping all the orange switch up.
The cell doors will open once successful.
Enter the Death Chamber, which is next to the Transformer,
Collect the Medium Weight on the chair.

Note: Medium Weight is not needed to retrieve the Hunting Rifle, but it’s required to open the other doors for your next game progression.

Get the Armory Key

After overloading the transformer, all the locked cell doors will open, giving you access to the Armory Key needed for the Hunting Rifle cabinet.

Proceed with caution, as the area is crawling with enemies. However, you’ll find plenty of valuable loot inside the open cells, including ammo and health drinks.

Before you proceed, make sure to save your game in the Witness Room.
Leave the Death Chamber through the south door.
Head to Cell E1, then break the wall to access Cell E19.
Go to Cell E10, then slide through the crack on the wall to access the Armory Key room.

Open the Hunting Rifle Cabinet using the Armory Key

After retrieving the Armory Key, head back to the Armory to unlock the Hunting Rifle cabinet. Fortunately, you won’t need to take a long route to get there.

Enter the Witness Checkpoint near the Armory Key room and proceed through the north door. This will bring you directly next to the Armory.

Head inside and unlock the Hunting Rifle cabinet to claim your well-earned firearm!

Tip: The Hunting Rifle is a powerful weapon, but rifle ammo is extremely scarce. It’s best to save it for boss battles to make the most of its limited supply.
