Free PS5 Upgrade For Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs: Legion Fails For PS4 Disc Owners [Update: Still No Solution]

UPDATE: It has been over a week since I last wrote about this. But unfortunately this update will bring you no good news. Instead, I can only report Ubisoft have no solution for the free upgrade problem yet. And are asking for your continued patience. They have reiterated that all affected users will still be eligible for a free PlayStation 5 upgrade of their Playstation 4 disc copies, though they don’t know when it will become available. However, they are looking into the problem and will report back to us as soon as they have a fix. 
It’s not the news we’d all been hoping for. Especially, as you may have beaten the game by the time a fix is found. But it does suggest this is a little more than a permissions issue. So, we can only wait this one out. I just hope it isn’t affecting your enjoyment too much.

We are aware players in the UK are experiencing issues upgrading physical versions of some Ubisoft games from PS4 to PS5. We’re working to resolve this, and can confirm anyone experiencing this issue will still be eligible for their free upgrade. Stay tuned for more information.

One of the best things to come out of the lacklustre launch selection of games was the fact some PlayStation 4 releases could be upgraded for the PlayStation 5. For free, may I just add. But two such games have failed to make good of this promise. And they’re quite popular, too, which doesn’t help. However, the problem with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs: Legion isn’t affecting everyone, which isn’t helping things, either.
That’s because the issue seems to lie with owners of the European disc version only. How selective!

Those who’ve purchased the games previously as a digital download are being offered the upgrade for free, as intended. However, some gamers with a physical copy are facing a charge of £59.99 – the full next generation RRP. Ubisoft can’t explain this at the moment, stating the issue is under investigation, which means you’re stuck playing the backwards compatible version until a solution is found. Something that’s not the end of the world (because at least you have the games), but does undermine the reasoning behind buying a next generation console this early.
There is a solution, of sorts, but that requires you to set up a Turkish PlayStation network account. So, it’s hardly the answer we’re looking for. We just have to hope Ubisoft patch in a fix soon. All the while, spoilers get circulated online and you’re forced to choose between playing it as a last regeneration game or living under a rock until it’s fixed…
