Cyberpunk 2077 has launched in very poor condition on last-gen consoles. So poor, in fact, that the developer, CDPR, has had to issue a public apology for misleading its customers on PS4 and Xbox One, and even PS4 Pro and Xbox One X; the game is not great on any last-gen machine. If you want anything resembling playable, you’ll need to have a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S.
Considering just how bleeding hard those console are to find, that’s left many players with a game that barely functions as intended on the consoles they currently own. In its statement released yesterday, CDPR said that player would be able to get a full refund for the game and all they need to do is contact Sony or Microsoft for a refund from their respective stores. If you bought the game at retail, you should first try to get in touch with the retailer, and if that fails, sent a message to the dedicated email address CDPR has set up to help with refunds. That email address is: [email protected].
No doubt by now, that email address is getting hammered. Why? Because Sony doesn’t want to give any money back to players. Over on Twitter, I’ve spent a lot of time reading the horror stories from players who are trying to get a refund from Sony for their PSN purchase, and one, in particular, stopped me in my tracks.
A Twitter user named @bestkeeper has shared his experience with PlayStation’s customer service and it makes for some uncomfortable reading.

After explaining the situation to the PlayStation Support live chat member, he was told that because the game had already been played, a refund was not possible. The customer pushed back, only to be told: “there are two large game patches in January and February that should resolve many of the issues you are currently experiencing.”
End result? No refund.
Twitter is currently littered with hundreds of stories of players being denied a refund because they had already downloaded the game. Further proof that Sony’s refund policy is – excuse the French – total wanky bollocks?
C’est la vie…
