The early 2000s saw a multitude of animal gaming mascots from Crash Bandicoot to Spyro the Dragon, and now Polish studio Tate Multimedia has dropped an announce trailer for Kao the Kangaroo.
Watch this:
Kao the Kangaroo is a beautiful 3D platformer jam-packed with fun, exploration, adventure, and mystery! Join Kao, the feisty furball, as he embarks on an unforgettable quest to uncover the secrets surrounding the disappearance of his father. He’ll traverse rich environments, filled with hazards, puzzles, and foes. Each turn uncovers another clue as well as revealing a secret world bubbling under the surface.
Originally Kao was a game that launched on the Sega Dreamcast, but seeing that the console pretty much lost its generation’s console war, Kao (along with several other Dreamcast games) were lost in obscurity.
Even if that was the case, this reboot looks like a solid platformer for kids, with clear influence from the classic mascot platformers of the late 90s. Heck, even the banner art looks the same to Crash Bandicoot: It’s About Time. Hopefully Tate Multimedia found a way to reintroduce Kao to a new generation of young gamers. What kid doesn’t love a colourful mascot that bounces around levels and beats up wacky bosses?
No specific release date has been announced for Kao the Kangaroo, but the game is expected to launch this year for the PC, PS4|PS5, Xbox one, Xbox Series X|S, and the Nintendo Switch.
