If you’re a newcomer to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you may have noticed there are certain areas too high for your character to reach. You’ll need something to help you reach those high places, and nothing is better than a ladder for this job. Even so, you won’t get one until later in the game.

How to Get a Ladder in Animal Crossing

Should you be looking for the fastest way to get a ladder, you’re in luck. This tool is handy for exploring the island, and it’s in your best interest to craft it quickly.

Getting a Ladder in Animal Crossing: New Horizon

Before you get a ladder, there are several tasks to complete. Each of them may take some time, but none are complicated missions. Here’s what you must do:

Invite a Villager to Live on the Island

The first order of business is to find at least one Villager to live on the island. To initiate this step, you have to go to the Nook Stop Terminal. Before doing that, however, you should pay off all your moving fees, build a home, and build Nook’s Cranny.

  1. Use the Nook Stop Terminal and visit another island.

  2. Talk to some people over there.

  3. One of them will seem likely to move to your island.

  4. Chat until they say yes.

  5. Call Tom Nook to help with arrangements.

Build a Bridge

As no one can move to your island until Tom Nook agrees, you need to wait until he asks you to build a bridge. You’ll receive a bridge construction kit from him.

  1. After receiving the kit, start gathering resources.

  2. When you gather four log stakes, four clay bits, and four stone lumps, prepare to construct the bridge.

  3. Locate somewhere to place to bridge.

Now, your new residents will get to move in.

Prepare the Plots of Land and Housing Kits

Tom Nook has promised new residents that they get fully-kitted homes, and you’ll have to help him with that. First, you have to place the plots of land down. For each of the three houses, you have to craft six furniture items.

However, you’ll notice that among the recipes, there are flowers you’ve never seen before. They’re not anywhere near the areas you can reach. However, as you did promise to help Tom Nook out, you can’t give up.

Get a Ladder Recipe and Craft It

After you place the plots, Tom Nook will call you. He informs you that the flowers aren’t available in your current exploration limits. That’s when you’ll finally get your ladder recipe.

  1. Go to Residents’ Services.

  2. Talk to Tom Nook and get the ladder crafting recipe.

  3. Collect four pieces of wood, four hardwood, and four softwood.

  4. Craft the ladder.

Now, you have a ladder to use to climb up and down on the island. The best part is it doesn’t break, though you need to switch to it every time the elevation changes. If only there were wall-jumping and climbing mechanics, things would be easier. However, ladders help players explore previously unreachable areas while maintaining the charm of the game’s simple mechanics.

Get a Ladder From Your Friends

If you have some friends playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons and they’re further into the game, it’s possible to get a ladder from them. All you need is to visit them through local or online multiplayer.

Once you’re in their world, they can craft it for you or let you buy the recipe from their Nook’s Cranny.

This method lets you get the ladder remarkably early, and you can explore the island as you wish. But, if you want to progress through the game naturally, this method isn’t for you.

Mountain and Ledge Climber

Whether you get the ladder recipe organically or from a friend, you won’t regret the decision. You get to explore the island and reach higher or lower areas without ramps. As you can use it forever, there’s no need to craft another one.
