Far Cry has been around for many years. It’s no secret that this game has had success for all of those years, and is back at it again with Far Cry 6.

Best 5 Games Like Far Cry 6

Even though it is praised and loved by many, this game has had its fair share of hate as well. On whichever side you’re on, you might be looking for alternatives if you have already finished it, or you like the concept, but Far Cry isn’t for you.

It is important to note that this game is unique, and it has concepts that not many other games have. Nevertheless, we’ve compiled a list with the best five games like Far Cry 6.

How We Evaluated Best Games Like Far Cry 6

  • Graphics have been a determining factor in Far Cry’s success, so it was highly important that the games in this list have great graphics.
  • They must include aspects like survival, hunt, chaos, progression, and freedom.
  • Similar mechanics, gameplay, and pace.
  • Individual story, but closely related to the theme of Far Cry 6.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Available on: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Linux, MacOS

Initial Release Date: September 12th, 2018

Developed by: Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montreal, Nixxes Software BV

Even though Shadow of the Tomb Raider doesn’t share the first-person perspective like that of Far Cry, there are many things that intertwine these two games. Since Tomb Raider has been mostly themed around Indiana Jones style esthetics and aspects, it closely resembles Far Cry.

Not many know Far Cry’s history, but more veteran players know that Far Cry is heavily inspired by Indiana Jones. Nonetheless, this game is the most similar in its theme, and style.

The story is well-crafted, and since this is the successor for Rise of the Tomb Raider, it continues the unique story of Lara Croft. I have been amazed by the job the developers did on creating a consistent but linear story-line.

Its gameplay is a scripted progression one, and while the world isn’t as open as Far Cry, when playing it, you won’t notice that this is the case. The world has so much depth, and the objectives and stories are so immersive that you won’t even notice that most of the world is closed off.

Dishonored 2

the best 5 games like far cry 6

Available on: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

Initial Release Date: November 11th, 2016

Developed by: Arkane Studios

Dishonored 2 is the most notable stealthy game, at least that was the major focus for it. However, even though that’s true, there is much more dynamic gameplay than you might expect.

What establishes a connection between Dishonored and Far Cry is the freedom to play the game in a way in which the player chooses. Stealthy isn’t the only way to go, on the contrary, you can create quite a lot of carnage in this game.

The game’s story isn’t at all similar to that of Far Cry 6, but it is pretty unique and never before seen. It is a plus that this game is first-person. This always gives more depth and impressiveness in games, that can’t be achieved in third-person.

You either play as Emily or her father, but this does not make any difference to the story. In fact, most of the dialogue is same for both. The only difference is some gameplay aspects, but both characters can go either full chaos builds or stealthy builds.

Fallout 76

Available on: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

Initial Release Date: October 23rd, 2018

Developed by: Bethesda Softworks, Bethesda Game Studios, Bethesda Game Studios Austin

While we’re on the topic of classics such as Far Cry and Tomb Raider, it only seems fair to mention Fallout 76. This game has had a love and hate relationship with its players, but there is no denying that the expectations for this game was unrealistic, sort of like with 2020’s Cyberpunk 2077.

My point is that even though it had some buggy stuff in it, by no means did it deserve the unconstructive criticism that it good. Fallout 4 was so good that many players expected the successor to be something out of this humanly world.

It still surprised many with new and refreshed story and graphics, and it is definitely a solid choice in this best 5 games like Far Cry 6 list! Granted, post nuclear era, and dictatorship aren’t really similar, the main thing which will be similar is the experience.

In games like Fallout 76 and Far Cry 6, a lot of emphasis is always put on freedom. Both of these games have worlds similar in scale, and there is so much to discover, that at times, you might get overwhelmed by how much content there actually is.

Red Dead Redemption 2

best 5 games similar to far cry 6

Available on: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, PC

Initial Release Date: October 26th, 2018

Developed by: Rockstar Games & Rockstar North

Time and time again, Rockstar Games doesn’t seem to disappoint. They’re the pioneers of open-world games, and with Red Dead Redemption 2, they really outdid themselves. There aren’t many similarities in the story for both games, but it is the same dynamic more or less.

On paper, both games feel and look quite different, and I’m not here to argue that point. You can tell that a lot of focus has went into all of the characters in Far Cry 6, and that is the case with Red Dead Redemption 2 as well.

This makes for a well-balanced story-line which in both games feels the same pace. There are core differences in gameplay and mechanics, but these are both different concepts, but the freedom to move, to explore, to create chaos, to be bad is present in both games.

Even if this is not a list for the best five games like Far Cry 6, I would still recommend Red Dead Redemption 2 to anyone. This game is very well-spread, and it has appealed to many people who don’t play this style of games regularly.

Just Cause 4

Available on: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

Initial Release Date: December 3rd, 2018

Developed by: Avalanche Studios Group

You might think that the chaos in Far Cry 6 might be unparalleled. Well, wait until you play Just Cause 4. There have been a lot of bugs and issues with Just Cause because of some quirky mechanics, and by the fact that you can do some crazy stuff that defy all physics laws.

When playing it, you feel as though the game is urging you to create mayhem in this world, and it definitely does. In the first missions, you’ll gather with some NPCs and wage war against oppression and the evil corporations.

When I say wage war, I don’t mean a peaceful protest. Instead, you will make a master plan to attack these evil corporations using explosives, guns, knives, and of course Just Cause’s infamous grapple hook.

The story does feel unbalanced and unusual at times, and you might feel as though the characters aren’t well thought out, but still even with those setbacks, it manages to give you an enjoyable time. There are a lot of similarities with Far Cry 6, and you should give it a go!
