Ukraine is in the spotlight right now as Russian forces are currently attempting an invasion, and it looks like everyone around the world is trying their best to show some kind of support. Movie studios like WB have decided to stop the release of films like The Batman in Russia, and now game studio CD Projekt Red has also taken a stand.
In a new post from CDPR, they have announced that they will be suspending digital sales as well as physical stock deliveries to Russia and Belarus. Here’s the post:
They write: “We know that players in Russia and Belarus, individuals who have nothing to do with the invasion of Ukraine, will be impacted by this decision, but with this action, we wish to further galvanize the global community to speak about what is going on in the heart of Europe.”
Even EA has started taking a stand, with EA Sports FIFA announcing that they will be removing Russian teams from the game:
We don’t know how long this crisis is going to go on, but I have to commend the studios for taking some kind of stand. While there are many gamers and communities that would like to ‘keep politics out of games,’ I think it’s everyone’s responsibility to do what they can in times of crisis, especially when people’s lives are at stake.
CDPR games like Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher III are still available in other countries except for Russia and Belarus.
