Franz Ferdinand’s song This Fire may have come out back in 2004, but the hit got a whole new kind of popularity when it was used as the opening for Netflix’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. With fans still gushing about the show online, the studio has released an official MV for This Fffire featuring clips from the anime.
Check it out:
As someone who liked the song before it was used for the anime, I always kind of thought that the opening was kind of lacking because it never really got to the chorus. Then again, I think it’s amazing that the song manages to encapsulate the entire theme of the series, what with Dave and his gang being encouraged to ‘burn’ the entire system of capitalism that plagues Night City.
So far, the anime has had a pretty solid reception, and it’s even managed to renew interest in the Cyberpunk game after a terrible launch. Now CDPR is working on a sequel, but fans are wondering if Studio Trigger is planning on making some more series based on the chooms of Night City.
Here’s the official description or Edgerunners:
The series tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in Night City — a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he stays alive by becoming an edgerunner — a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is now available on Netflix. Cyberpunk 2077 is now playable for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 4|5.
