Though earlier previews for the game have mainly had this sort of Death Stranding meets NieR marketing to showcase how different the game is from previous entries, the Queen track and colourful locations make it clear that this game is going to have moments that feel like classic Sonic while at the same time bringing in some new gameplay elements.

One surprise in the trailer is the appearance of Doctor Robotnik, Sonic’s old nemesis. Though Robotnik has been the villain in the older Sonic games, the marketing for Frontiers have been teasing these new ‘biblically accurate angel’ enemies. With the brief look at Robotnik, I wonder what kind of role he’s going to be playing in this game.

So far, reviews for Sonic Frontiers have been solid, and while the game isn’t perfect, there are a lot that say it says a lot of promising things about Sonic’s future as a franchise.

Here’s the official description:

Sonic Frontiers is out NOW! Uncover the mysteries of the Starfall Islands, battle foes unlike anything Sonic has seen before, speed your way through Cyber Space, and free your friends in Sonic’s biggest adventure yet.

Sonic Frontiers is now availalble for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4|5.
