Two months ago, a rumor was going around that the Electronic Entertainment Expo (or E3) for 2022 has been cancelled, and it looks like it’s all true.
In a statement shared with IGN, the ESA has revealed that it will be cancelling this year’s E3 in order to bring back the event in a bigger way next year. The statement reads:
“We will devote all our energy and resources to delivering a revitalized physical and digital E3 experience next summer. Whether enjoyed from the show floor or your favorite devices, the 2023 showcase will bring the community, media, and industry back together in an all-new format and interactive experience. We look forward to presenting E3 to fans around the world live from Los Angeles in 2023.”
Though there won’t be any E3 this year, 2022 isn’t short on any large game events. Besides PlayStation, Xbox, and all the other major studios holding their own big announcement throughout the year, this June will also see Geoff Keigley’s Summer Game Fest (which is also said to have been a reason E3 was cancelled).
Even if E3 was the big event for games, the pandemic has certainly been in the way of its comeback. E3 was the first big event that was cancelled back in 2020, and devs were forced to hold their own ‘mini-E3s’ because of COVID. Hopefully by next year, the pandemic situation has improved and gamers can finally get their ‘Comic-Con’ back.
There may be no E3 this year, but the Electronic Entertainment Expo promises to make a big comeback sometime next year.
