Baizhu, the owner of Liyue’s Bubu Pharmacy, is the first Dendro-type character added to the game. However, it took until Version 3.6 of the game before he was reintroduced as a playable character. Given that he owns a dispensary, Baizhu is a support character, specifically a healer with a 5-star rarity. He is the green-haired guy who takes care of Qiqi and always has a white snake named Changsheng with him.

Character Background
Baizhu is a well-known and trusted physician in Liyue Harbor. His reputation is so great that even the adeptus Xiao is aware of him, and his employee Herbalist Gui takes great care in his work to avoid sullying the good name of Dr. Baizhu and Bubu Pharmacy.
The Yuheng of Liyue Qixing even considers visiting him when someone cannot identify their symptoms. When encountering unusual or novel diseases, Baizhu often accepts only a token fee, claiming that assessing a fee for such a rare ailment is difficult.
Baizhu is not only a brilliant physician but is also a skilled businessman. The prices at Bubu Pharmacy are generally fair, and the pricing strategy for most products is one of high sales with low margins on each transaction.
Many of the pharmacy’s customers are business people who have become “partners,” bringing Baizhu rare herbs from across the land and exporting the medicines he develops to every corner of the world. As the pockets of Bubu’s business partners began to bulge, so too did the Pharmacy’s ledgers.
Baizhu lost both his parents when he was young when a horrific plague struck his hometown. This made him want to learn the physician’s art and follow in the footsteps of his master, who could always provide treatment even against strange and complicated diseases. He taught him that disease is dangerous but can ultimately be overcome with human intellect.
When death, the most intractable disease with no cure or answer, had finally come for his master, Chansheng melancholically wondered how many more people would take on this contract. Baizhu declared that such a contract would end with him not wanting to see yet another precious life slip away before his eyes.
When he next opened his eyes, they shone with golden light like unquenchable candles. The first thing reflected in his now vertical pupils was a Vision, appearing briefly like a firefly on his master’s tombstone.
How to Get Baizhu
Baizhu is a 5-star character released as a playable character during the Version 3.6 update of the game. He can only be obtained by making wishes on a time-limited Character Wish Banner, which will only feature a special 5-star character if that character is involved in the game’s current contents, like story quests and events. If Baizhu is currently featured on the Character Wish Banner, you can do a test run of the character and see if you like his play style.
Currently the game does double Character Banner reruns where they feature 5-star characters not part of the current game story content.

Team Role and Play Style
Support: Healer
The devs designed Baizhu from story to talents and overall kit as a support character, specifically leaning towards a healer. He can also shield your active character and increase the Dendro-related damage for that character. However, only your active character and Baizhu can have this shield, which means such support capabilities can only be applied and used in solo play.
The only way for Baizhu to heal his team is by using his Elemental Skill, which means you need to spam it. But, with its 10 seconds cool down time, it can be difficult or even a deal breaker to some players. His healing capability shines when you unlock his 1st Constellation because it grants his Elemental Skill an additional one charge, allowing him to do two consecutive instances of this talent.
The shield created by Baizhu’s Elemental Burst can only heal the character with the protection on, meaning himself or your other characters. You cannot use this healing method on teammates in a coop play setup.
Baizhu’s Elemental Burst needs 80 Energy to be used, and since hit Elemental Skill cannot be easily spammed, having another Dendro user in the party with him would be recommended to act as an Energy battery. One of Baizhu’s passive talents will grant that Dendro-using character a boost to the EDendro-related Elemental Reaction damage they trigger.
Damage Type or DPS (Unconventional)
Like most of the characters in Genshin Impact, you can also build and use Baizhu as a DPS character. But this build will neglect major parts of his kit and potential, especially his healing capabilities. We do not recommend this type of build for Baizhu.
Talents
Combat Talents
Normal Attack: The Classics of Acupuncture
This talent allows Baizhu to perform up to 4 attacks if you press the talent button consecutively. It will deal Dendro Damage to opponents in front of him, but this attack is at close range, unlike most catalyst users’ normal attacks.
When you hold the button for this talent down, Baizhu performs a Charged Attack dealing AOE Dendro Damage to opponents in front of him. However, using the talent will have a short casting time and consume a certain amount of Stamina.
You can use The Classics of Acupuncture from a certain distance to the ground. When used this way, Baizhu will call upon the might of Dendro to plunge toward the ground and damage all opponents in his path. Upon impact with the ground, this Plunging Attack will deal AOE Dendro Damage.
Elemental Skill: Universal Diagnosis
“Those in the medical field who can read true signs of illness from false ones may even cure people before any symptoms can show.”
Using this talent will have Baizhu control a Gossamer Sprite to cruise and attack nearby opponents, dealing Dendro Damage to them. After performing three attacks or with no opponents nearby, the Sprite will return and heal all nearby party members. The amount of HP regenerated by this talent is based on Baizhu’s Max HP.
You do not need to hit fellow teammates with the Sprite as it returns to Baizhu. Although the amount of HP recovered is pretty decent, the 10 seconds cooldown time prevents Baizhu from spamming heals. But if you are lucky enough to unlock the 1st level of his constellation, then another charge of this healing skill is granted, and this Elemental Skill can then be used twice.
Elemental Burst: Holistic Revivification
“If you can perceive the heavens and the earth, defend against malignant auras with the flow of qi, and keep your mind clear, surely nothing can hinder you.”
When Baizhu uses his Elemental Burst, he will enter the Pulsing Clarity state and create a Seamless Shield that absorbs Dendro Damage with 250% effectiveness and will last up to 2.5 seconds. However, while still in the Pulsing Clarity state, Baizhu will generate a new Seamless Shield every 2.5 seconds.
The Seamless Shield protects the active character and heals them by an amount based on Baizhu’s Max HP. It will also unleash Spiritveins to attack surrounding opponents dealing Dendro Damage to them. The Seamless Shield’s healing and attacking features will only be triggered when a character is under its protection, and a new Seamless Shield is generated and when this shield’s effects expire or if it gets shattered.
Passive Talents
Five Fortunes Forever
With this talent unlocked, Baizhu will gain different effects based on the remaining HP of your currently active character. If that said character has less than 50% HP remaining on them, Baizhu would gain a 20% Healing Bonus. But if their remaining HP is 50% and above, Baizhu will gain a 25% Dendro Damage bonus.
All Things Are of the Earth
This passive talent will grant additional effect to Baizhu’s Elemental Burst. If you unlock this, the characters healed by Seamless Shields gain the Year of Verdant Favor effect.
For every 1,000 Max HP point that Baizhu possesses that does not exceed 50,000, Year of Verdant Favor will increase the character’s Dendro-related Elemental Reaction damage.
Burning, Bloom, and higher Hyperbloom will have 2% more damage for every 1,000 of Baizhu’s Max HP, while Aggravate and Spread will have a 0.8% increase in damage. These effects will last for 6 seconds.
Utility: Herbal Nourishment
When Baizhu is at the party, interacting with certain harvestable items will heal your active character for 2.5% of Baizhu’s Max HP. The harvestable items are mostly plants and fruits commonly found in the wild regardless of region or nation.
This talent is very helpful when adventuring and hunting monsters in the wild because all you need is to pick up some Mint or Sweet Flower, and your character will regenerate HP.
Constellation: Lagenaria
Constellation Level 1: Attentive Observation
Baizhu’s Elemental Skill, Universal Diagnosis, gains an additional one charge when you unlock this constellation level. Baizhu can use his Elemental Skill twice without waiting for the 10-second cooldown.
Constellation Level 2: Incisive Discernment
This constellation level enhances Baizhu’s off-field damage support capability in a solo-game team. With this unlocked, when your active character hits a nearby opponent with their attacks, Baizhu will unleash a Gossamer Sprite: Splice.
This will initiate a single attack before returning and deal 250% of Baizhu’s ATK as Dendro Damage. Gossamer Sprite: Splice will also heal all nearby teammates but only for 20% of the normal healing of the Gossamer Sprite created by Baizhu’s Elemental Skill.
The damage dealt by the Gossamer Sprite: Splice is considered Elemental Skill damage, and you can only trigger these effects every five seconds.
Constellation Level 3: All Aspects Stabilized
Unlocking this level of Attentive Observation will increase the level of Baizhu’s Elemental Burst talent by three levels and upgrade its maximum level from 10 to 15.
Constellation Level 4: Ancient Art of Perception
Ancient Art of Perception will grant another enhancement to Baizhu’s Elemental Burst. With this activated, for 15 seconds after using Holistic Revivification, all nearby party members’ Elemental Mastery will be increased by 80.
Constellation Level 5: The Hidden Ebb and Flow
Unlocking this level of Attentive Observation will increase Baizhu’s Elemental Skill talent, Universal Diagnosis, by three levels and upgrade its maximum level from 10 to 15.
Constellation Level 6: Elimination of Malicious Qi
The final level of Baizhu’s constellation will further enhance the damaging capabilities of his Elemental Burst. Having this level unlocked will increase the damage dealt by the Holistic Revivification’s Spiritveins by 8% of Baizhu’s max HP. Additionally, when a Gossamer Sprite or Gossamer Sprite: Splice hits opponents, there is a 100% of generating one of the Seamless Shields created by his Elemental Burst.
Each Gossamer Sprite or Gossamer Sprite: Splice can trigger this effect once.
How to Build Baizhu
Despite dealing with Dendro Damage, given that he uses a catalyst as a weapon, the stat that Baizhu’s kit can greatly benefit from is HP. The higher his Max HP is, the greater the amount of heal he can provide the team. Similar goes to how much damage his Seamless Shield can absorb and all the other damage boosts he can provide his teammates.
Weapon: Catalyst
Catalyst is Baizhu’s weapon, and you need to equip ones with an HP bonus as its secondary stat.
5-Star Catalysts
Jadefall’s Splendor
“A ritual vessel carved from jade that reflects the luster of the skies and the clear waters.”
This 5-star weapon gives a high base ATK up to 608; its secondary stat grants a maximum HP bonus of 49.6% at level 90, and its passive effect is called Primordial Jade Regalia, granting the weapon-user several bonuses.
To trigger this passive effect, the weapon user must use an Elemental Burst or create a shield. For 3 seconds after doing so, that character will restore Energy every 2.5 seconds and gain an Elemental Damage bonus of at least 0.3% for their corresponding Elemental Type for every 1,000 Max HP points they possess.
The Elemental Damage bonus can reach 12 to 44%, depending on the weapon’s refinement level. The Primordial Jade Regalia will still take effect even if the character equipping this weapon is not on the field.
Everlasting Moonglow
“A string of lovely jasper from the deep sea. It shines with a pure radiance like that of the moon, and just as ever-distant.”
The Everlasting Moonglow is an event-exclusive 5-star weapon, which means it can only be obtained by wishes on a weapon banner where it is featured. It is designed as the best-in-slot (BIS) weapon for most healer-type characters and works well, especially if you want to have a little increase in damage while playing in coop mode.
This catalyst gives a maximum HP bonus of 49.6% at level 90 and a high base ATK up to 608, given that it is a 5-star weapon. Its passive effect increases the weapon wielder’s healing bonus and normal attack damage by a percentage of their maximum HP.
Based on the weapon features above, the Everlasting Moonglow is one of the best weapons for Baizhu. That is if you have the Primogems to wish for it and if you are lucky enough to get it.
4-Star Catalysts
Prototype Amber
“A dully gilded catalyst secretly guarded in the Blackcliff Forge. It seems to glow with the very light from the sky.”
The 4-star catalyst Prototype Amber is a healer-designed weapon with a passive effect that regenerates all party members’ HP for some time after the wielder of this weapon uses an elemental burst.
This effect will boost Baizhu’s healing capabilities and is very helpful when his elemental burst is not enough to recover a character’s HP fully. During this HP recovery period, the wielder of this weapon will also regenerate a certain amount of energy at a fixed interval.
At level 90, Prototype Amber also gives a bonus of 41.3% HP which is higher than the bonus given by the Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers.
3-Star Catalysts
Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers
“A fictional story of a band of five heroes who go off on a dragon hunt. It is poorly written and structurally incoherent. Its value lies in the many lessons that can be learned from failure.”
This weapon is a 3-star and perhaps the easiest to obtain. You can only obtain it from wish banners, being a 3-star gives it a higher drop rate than the other weapons in this list.
Despite giving the lowest HP bonus, some players prefer this 3-star catalyst over the ones mentioned above due to its passive effect called Heritage.
When switching characters, you trigger Heritage, and the switching character gives at least a 24% increase in ATK to the new character. However, you can only trigger this in solo play or in a coop party where you control two characters with your healer as one of them.
Artifacts
4-Piece Sets
Maiden Beloved
Maiden Beloved is for a pure healer build.
Its 2-Piece set offers additional 15% character healing effectiveness. Its 4-Piece set increases the healing received by all party members by 20% for 10 seconds whenever the artifact wearer uses an elemental skill or burst.
Ocean-Hued Clam
For Baizhu to provide good heals and decent support damage to the team, a 4-Piece Ocean-Hued Clam is the artifact for him.
This artifact’s 2-Piece set bonus is similar to the 2-Piece Maiden Beloved’s. The 4-Piece set will create a “Sea-Dyed Foam” whenever the wielder heals. This “foam” is a bubble that will last 3 seconds before exploding to damage surrounding opponents physically. The damage of this bubble scales off the accumulated healing within the 3-second time frame that the Sea-Dyed Foam is active.
This means that with this set, Baizhu can focus on more HP stat to increase healing while providing additional damage the team can make. If you have the 4-Piece Ocean-Hued Clam, it will somehow make up for the damage loss of having one party slot to a healer rather than a full 4-man damage team.
However, to maximize this artifact set, the healer needs to continuously heal by spamming their skill to trigger the Sea-Dyed Foam.
Noblesse Oblige
The 2-piece Noblesse Oblige artifact set grants a 20% increase to the character’s elemental burst damage, and the 4-piece set can also increase the team’s ATK temporarily.
This works fine with Baizhu because his Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst can both deal damage while healing the entire team.
2-Piece Sets Combination
One of the 2-piece artifact sets you can equip Baizhu with combines 2-Piece Maiden Beloved and Ocean-Hued Clam for a 30% character healing effectiveness bonus.
You can also have a 2-Piece of either Maiden Beloved or Ocean-Hued Clam paired with a 2-Piece Tenacity of Millelith because the latter gives a bonus of 20% HP increase which can add to the amount of heal that Barbara can provide to the team.
You do not have to have all five artifacts from the same set. Instead, you can always have one as an offset if you have 4 of the same set.
Artifact Parts’ Main Stat
For the Circlet of Logos, also known as the headpiece, it would be nice if you are lucky enough to get one with Healing Bonus as its main stats and HP for the sub stats, but one with HP as its main stat is still good for Baizhu.
Make sure to have an HP for the Goblet of Eonothem and Sands of Eon to increase the amount of HP further recovered from Baizhu’s healing skills and the amount of damage the shield from his Elemental Burst can absorb.
Baizhu’s Character Ascension
What is Character Ascension in Genshin Impact
Each character has a certain level cap depending on their current ascension phase, and a character can be ascended to 6 phases to reach the maximum character level of 90. You unlock passive talents and special ascension stats when a character ascends to certain phases.
Ascension Materials
You need several items to ascend a character. We have listed the required materials necessary for each of Baizhu’s ascension phases.
Mora: 420,000
Mora is Genshin Impact’s main currency unit. It is accepted in all the nations of Teyvat and is used to upgrade weapons, artifacts, talents, and character levels.
Evergloom Ring: 46
This circular item is a mystical weapon shaped like a passageway and is speculated to be a gateway intended to guide the universe itself. It is also believed that this is why arcane formations meant to produce some mystical effect are often ring-shaped. You can obtain Evergloom Rings after defeating the Iniquitous Baptist, the Four-Armed Envoy of dark tidings, found in a cave in Gavireh Lajavad, Sumeru.
Violetgrass: 168
This is a Liyue-exclusive flower and you can only find it in said nation. This flower usually grows on cliffs, caves, mines, and mountain walls throughout Liyue, making gathering challenging.
Spore Powder
Floating Fungi leave behind this spore powder throughout the world. They come in tiny glittering amounts, a small luminescent parcel, or huge lumps. If you collect small parcels, you can sell them in paper packets as a common medical ingredient in the land of rainforests.
The huge lumps, on the other hand, are usually collected from a structurally complete spore cyst. And when put in an appropriate environment, the area might later be filled with a thriving aggregation of Floating Fungi.
You can only obtain this material when you defeat a Fungi-type monster without activating them. This means not using Pyro or Electro to attack them. The different types of spore power are Fungal Spores, Luminescent Pollen, and Crystal Cyst Dust, and the amount needed for each are as follows: Fungal Spores: 18; Luminescent Pollen: 30; Crystal Cyst Dust: 36.
Negadus Emerald
You can obtain these mineral crystals from boss enemies manipulating the Dendro element. Boss enemies like Dendro Hypostasis, Jadeplume Terrorshroom, and Apep the Devourer of Divinity in the Realm of Beginnings trounce domain. You can also get these from quest and commissions rewards by crafting them using the ones with lower rarity levels.

Aside from Mora and Spore Powder, you need a few Puppet Strings to increase Baizhu’s combat talents.
Worldspan Fern
People believed that at the dawn of time when the world belonged to the dragons, the ferns were the first to sprout in the lush verdant world. These ferns would become trees, vines, roots, and leaves in the ages after, blanketing the world with their touch. This fern is taken from the oasis within Guardian Apep’s body and can be obtained after defeating it in the Realm of Beginnings trounce domain.
Talent Level Book: Gold
You need the talent-level books of the “Gold” series for Baizhu’s combat talents. You can obtain these by completing the challenge in the Taishan Mansion Domain of Mastery: Circle of Embers, available on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
These books include The Teachings of Gold, Guide to Gold, and The Philosophies of Gold. You can craft the last two by using the crafting bench in the town.
