Kratos may have taken over the Norse pantheon in the God of War games, but Ragnarok had him face to face with the Norse god of war Tyr. While Tyr’s story may have been open and shut in the game, it looks like we could be seeing more of him down the line.
According to Shark Games, Ben Prendergast, who plays Tyr in Ragnarok has said in an interview at PAC East that the character could be returning down the line. He says, “And I’ll say this – it isn’t the last you’ve seen of Tyr.”
In the game, Kratos and Atreus go off on a quest to save Tyr from Odin’s special prison, but going further into the game, it’s revealed that they didn’t liberate Tyr at all, and it was actually Odin in disguise. Another side mission opens up where you save the actual Tyr, but at that point, he kind of just wanders the realms looking for a purpose after the defeat of Odin.
With Asgard and the rest of the realms left in a state of ruin, there is definitely room for a sequel where Kratos or Atreus would go around and try to fix things up, and we could see Tyr come back as an ally. Of course, there are also other characters in the game that have open arcs like Thor’s daughter Thrud as well as friend-turned-enemy-turned-friend Freya.
We don’t know what the future holds for God of War, but fans did think they would be seeing Kratos tackle different mythologies. Then again, maybe we could be watching Atreus take the God of War mantle and lead the games in the future?
We’ll just have to wait and see.
For now, you can catch Tyr in God of War Ragnarok now available for PlayStation 4|5.
