Trevor suffers from several mental disorders: Borderline Personality Disorder, Antisocial Personality Disorder, and Intermittent Explosive Disorder. The combination of these three conditions creates the deadly and unpredictable concoction of Trevor Philips.
The GTA 5 protagonist suffered physical and emotional abuse when he was young. Trevor’s father would physically abuse him, while his mom would also subject him to emotional stress. Trevor’s Crazy Deeds in GTA 5
As you play through Trevor’s part in Story Mode, you will immediately realize how crazy Trevor is. Trevor makes unthinkable decisions throughout GTA 5, often taking things too far.
Trevor first displays deranged behavior when he kills The Lost MC’s leader, Johnny Klebitz, in Mr. Philips. When Johnny confronts Trevor for having an affair with his girlfriend, Trevor kills Johnny and blames Johnny for his death.
Trevor didn’t stop at killing The Lost MC leader. The deranged protagonist would eventually kill every member of The Lost MC in Blaine County, going as far as to ambush them at their base of operations to take over their arms business.
Philips will go on to eliminate all his business competition in Sandy Shores and do it using the most extreme methods he can think of. In the Main Story Mission Crystal Maze, for example, you will see Trevor ambush the O’Neil Brothers’ meth lab, kill everyone inside, and blow up the house completely.
What mental illness does Trevor have in GTA 5?
Trevor’s behavior meets the criteria for the following mental disorders:
- Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
- Antisocial Personality Disorder
- Intermittent Explosive Disorder
Trevor likely suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder, among many other mental illnesses. A person with BPD will have difficulty controlling their emotions, which Trevor consistently displays throughout GTA 5.
Antisocial Personality Disorder is another mental illness that Trevor is very likely suffering from. A blatant disregard for laws, social norms, and other people’s rights characterizes Antisocial Personality Disorder.
