Learn how to obtain the Wayward Compass Charm in Hollow Knight!
Team Cherry’s Metroidvania action-adventure game, Hollow Knight, follows the journey of a nameless warrior called the Knight as he travels through Hallownest, which is now a kingdom in ruins because of a supernatural disease. As the Knight journeys through Hallownest, he can unlock new abilities, spells, and charms that will help him traverse through different areas of Hallownest and defeat enemies.
In the game, special items give the Knight different abilities and bonuses called Charms. To equip or unequip these Charms, the Knight must sit on a Bench, and the Knight must have enough unused Notches to equip them. In this guide, we’ll learn about the Wayward Compass charm.
One of the 45 Charms in the game is the Wayward Compass Charm, which requires and takes up one Charm Notch. The Wayward Compass Charm lets the Knight see its location on the map. With the Wayward Compass charm equipped, it makes it easier to navigate and explore around Hallownest!
Location
The Wayward Compass charm can be purchased for 220 Geo from Iselda in her shop on the right side of the Bench and Stagway Station in Dirtmouth.
At the start of the game, Iselda’s shop will be closed and unlocked after the Knight’s first encounter with Iselda’s husband, Cornifer, a Cartographer working on creating a map for the whole of Hallownest. So, before the Knight can purchase the Wayward Compass charm from Iselda, the Knight must first find Conifer. To do that, this is what the Knight must do:
- From the Bench in Dirtmouth, head to the right, then drop down on the well to take the exit downwards and reach the Forgotten Crossroads.
- Next, head to the left, where the Knight will encounter a Tiktik and a Crawlid, then take the exit on the leftmost side of the room.
- After that, the Knight will be in a large room filled with Gruzzers and more Tiktiks. Head to the bottom of the room and take the exit downwards.
- Then, upon entering the room, you will start to see pieces of paper lying around and hear someone humming (telltale signs that Cornifer is near). Head to the right, and there the Knight will find Cornifer!
Talk to Cornifer, and he will tell the Knight that he has a fondness for exploring as he takes great pleasure in getting lost and finding his way again. He will then introduce himself as a cartographer and say that he is currently working on mapping the area. Then, he will offer the Knight a copy of the map of the area, which the Knight can purchase for only 30 Geo.
After purchasing a map of the area from Cornifer, he suggests that the Knight buy a compass from his wife, Iselda, who is now opening their new map shop up in Dirtmouth and selling all kinds of useful things to wanderers like the Knight.
After that interaction with Cornifer, the Knight can now head back up the way to Dirtmouth and inside Cornifer and Iselda’s map shop to purchase the Wayward Compass charm for 220 Geo from Iselda!
Now that the Knight has the Wayward Compass charm, the Knight can equip it while sitting down on a Bench, and the Knight now has a new and easier way of navigating and exploring in Hallownest!
