How to Obtain the Mask Shard in the Queen’s Station in Hollow Knight

Team Cherry’s Metroidvania action-adventure game, Hollow Knight, follows the journey of a nameless warrior called the Knight as he travels through Hallownest, now a kingdom ruined by a supernatural disease. As the Knight journeys through Hallownest, he can obtain new items, abilities, spells, and charms that will help him traverse through different areas of Hallownest and defeat enemies.

An example of these items in the game is Mask Shards. These mask shards are used to increase the knights’ health masks. The Knight must collect four Mask Shards to complete one Ancient Mask, adding one to the Knight’s health.

There are 16 Mask Shards in the game, meaning the Knight can have an additional four Masks of Health for nine Masks (excluding Charm effects and Lifeblood Masks).

This guide will teach us how to obtain the Mask Shard in the Queen’s Station area!

Queen’s Station Mask Shard

The Mask Shard is found on the right side of the room at the end of a narrow path filled with thorns in Queen’s Station, which is at the western end of Fungal Wastes. Fortunately, the Knight will not encounter enemies on the way to this Mask Shard.

Before the Knight can find the Mask Shard that was mentioned, it is required that the Knight has the Mantis Claw ability, allowing the Knight to cling to walls and jump off of them. Although not required, it would also greatly help if the Knight had the Mothwing Cloak ability, allowing the Knight to perform horizontal dashes forward. Obtaining the Mask Shard in Queen’s Station will be no challenge with these abilities.

To obtain the Mask Shard in Queen’s Station, this is what the Knight must do the following:

1. Starting from the Bench in the Queen’s Station Stagway Station, take the exit on the right to leave the room.
   
2. Next, head to the right, jump up the platform sticking out of the floor, drop to its right side, and continue to the right, where, at the end of the path, there will be a wall of thorns and a narrow path on top.
   
3. Then, jump up the left wall of the narrow path (be careful not to hit the thorns at the top part of the wall), jump off of it with the help of the Mantis Claw ability towards the right wall just above the thorns, jump off of the right wall using the Mantis Claw ability towards the small safe ground in between the thorns on the path on the left.
   
4. After that, jump and cross the thorns on the left. The Knight can use the Mothwing Cloak to just dash above the thorns, but be careful not to hit the thorns on the ceiling of the path.
   
5. Next, head to the left, jump up the left wall of the shaft, jump off of it with the help of the Mantis Claw ability towards the right wall of the shaft, continue heading up the shaft with the help of the Mantis Claw ability but be careful not to hit the thorns on the left, then head up the platform on the right.
   
6. Then, jump across the thorns below on the right. The Knight can use the Mothwing Cloak again to dash above the thorns.
   
7. After that, jump up in the middle of the bottom thorns of the shaft, head towards the clear side of the right wall, jump off of it with the help of the Mantis Claw ability, then head towards the platform on the left.
   
8. Finally, head to the left and jump toward the Mask Shard to obtain it!

To leave this area, simply strike the lever on the right side of where the Mask Shard was found to open the gate on the left.

Now that the Knight has obtained this Mask Shard, the Knight only needs three more to complete an Ancient Mask and add one Mask to the Knight’s health!
