Learn how to obtain the Soul Eater Charm in Hollow Knight!
Team Cherry’s Metroidvania action-adventure game, Hollow Knight, follows the journey of a nameless warrior called the Knight as he travels through Hallownest, a kingdom ruined by a supernatural disease. As the Knight journeys through Hallownest, he can unlock new abilities, spells, and charms that will help him traverse through different areas of Hallownest and defeat enemies.
In this guide, you will learn about the Soul Eater charm. In the game, special items give the Knight different abilities and bonuses called Charms. To equip or unequip these Charms, the Knight must sit on a Bench and have enough unused Notches to equip them.
One of the 45 Charms in the game is the Soul Eater Charm, which requires and takes up four Charm Notches. The Soul Eater charm makes it easier to gain Souls from enemies! When equipped, the Soul Eater charm dramatically increases the amount of Soul gained when striking enemies with the Nail. The amount of Soul gained when the Soul Eater charm is equipped is three times more than the Soul gained without it equipped.
Location
The Soul Eater charm can be found next to the sarcophagus of a Snail Shaman at the end of a bunch of hidden rooms in the southeasternmost part of the Resting Grounds.
The Knight will encounter lots of various enemies in the Forgotten Crossroads. Still, the Knight will specifically encounter the following enemies on the way to the Soul Eater charm: Tiktiks, Vengeflies, Leaping Husks, Wandering Husks, Husk Hornheads, a Husk guard, a Husk Bully, Baldurs, the Elder Baldur, and the False Knight, which is a main boss in the game.
Before the Knight can access the Soul Eater charm, it is required that the Knight first obtain the Monarch Wings ability, which allows the Knight to perform a secondary jump while in mid-air, and the Mantis Claw ability, which enables the Knight to cling to walls and jump off of them. The Knight must also purchase the Lumafly Lantern, which helps the player see in the dark, from Sly in Dirtmouth. Obtaining the Soul Eater charm will be no challenge with this item and these abilities.
To find the Soul Eater charm, this is what the Knight must do:
- Starting from the Resting Grounds Stagway Station Bench, head to the left to exit the area, drop down to the bottom of the shaft, take the exit on the bottom left of the room, then head to the leftmost side of the next room and take the exit.
- Next, head to the left, drop down on the next exit that leads downwards, head to the right where the Knight will encounter a Winged Sentry and a Great Husk Sentry, take the exit on the rightmost part of the room, then, in the room with the big elevator, take the next exit on the right.
- Head to the right, where the Knight will encounter an Entombed Husk; the wall is breakable at the end of the path. Strike the wall a few times to break it. Then, the next room will be dark, so the Lumafly Lantern will help light the room up.
- It is worth noting that near where the Knight encounters the Entombed husk, there is a gap above where there is a breakable wall. Jump up, strike the breakable ceiling, and head up the path where the Knight will find a Grub and a Geo Chest but also encounter a Belfly and another Entombed Husk. After that, continue to the right, where the Knight will encounter another Entombed Husk.
- Next, continue to the right, where the Knight will find a Geo Chest. The wall on the right side of the Geo Chest is another breakable wall, and strike the wall a few times to break it.
- Then, continue to the right, where parts of the floor will break and reveal spikes, so watch out for that; head the narrow path that leads upwards, continue to the right, and drop down the narrow path that leads downwards where the bottom of the floor will also break and reveal spikes, continue to the right where an Entombed Husk will appear at the end of the path. It is worth mentioning that the Knight can pass through the wall where the Entombed Husk appeared and find a Wanderer’s Journal on the other side.
- Next, at the end of the path, is a narrow upward path that looks like nothing is there. The top of this path is breakable. Jump up and strike the breakable ceiling, head up the path, and there, the Knight will find something glowing next to the coffin of a Snail Shaman. Inspect the glowing thing; the Knight has obtained the Soul Eater charm!
Other Charms go well with the Soul Eater charm, precisely the Shaman Stone charm, which increases the damage of spells, which means that the extra Soul gained is put to good use; the Spell Twister charm, which reduces the amount of Soul required to cast spells which implies that the Knight can cast more spells.
This Quick Slash charm allows the Knight to hit an enemy more and, therefore, gain more Soul; the Soul Catcher charm also enables the Knight to gain more Soul every time the Knight hits an enemy, which the Knight can stack with the effects of the Soul Eater charm, and the Grubsong charm, which allows the Knight to gain Soul every time the Knight is hit which is an additional method to gain more Soul in battle.
Now that the Knight has the Soul Eater charm, the Knight can equip it while sitting down on a Bench, and the Knight can now gain more Soul when attacking enemies!
