It seems like remakes have no time limit nowadays. After The Last of Us Part I was remade for new-gen consoles, it looks like a ‘classic’ from 2017 is also going to be getting the new-gen update.
Word from Exputer is that a remake/remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn is in the works, but it won’t be coming from Guerrilla Games. As it turns out, the original developer of the Horizon games is too busy working on the DLC Burning Shores that they’ve handed the remake over to another studio.
For now, no official announcements have been made, so it’s best to take this with a grain of salt. Insider Colin Moriarty did say, “We’re also assuming that [Guerrilla] is making the Horizon remake thing there, although, if that’s real, what I’ve heard is that it’s at another team.”
As for the improvements that will come with the remaster, it’s said that it will feature improved lighting, character models, and animations. As much as everyone likes to sing the praises of Horizon Zero Dawn, the game admittedly needed some work when it came to the stoic expression on all the characters, including Aloy.
Here’s the official description for Horizon Zero Dawn:
In an era where Machines roam the land and mankind is no longer the dominant species, a young hunter named Aloy embarks on a journey to discover her destiny.
In a lush, post-apocalyptic world where nature has reclaimed the ruins of a forgotten civilization, pockets of humanity live on in primitive hunter-gatherer tribes. Their dominion over the new wilderness has been usurped by the Machines – fearsome mechanical creatures of unknown origin.
A PS5 remake for Horizon Zero Dawn hasn’t been officially announced, but the game is currently available for PlayStation 4|5 and PC.
