The incoming Final Fantasy VII games are what’s on everyone’s minds right now, but let’s not forget that Square Enix is still going to release the next entry in the main FF line, Final Fantasy XVI. While the game has originally had its roots with turn-based combat, it’s revealed that the gameplay for this game will be a little bit closer to the immediate action of Kingdom Hearts.

How the Kingdom Hearts Team Helped Make Final Fantasy XVI

Talking to The Washington Post, producer Naoki Yoshida explained how the KH team was able to contribute to FFXVI. He said, “The Kingdom Hearts team at Square Enix has been especially helpful in contributing to those real-time combat and boss battles. It can be said that the battles in Final Fantasy 16 are in some ways a culmination of the company’s past experiences.”

So far, a lot about FFXVI is still a mystery, but we should expect some more information to come out later this fall. I guess with every Final Fantasy entry, we should expect a whole new fantastical world to explore with new creatures, weapons, and lore. Though some entries stand out more than others, you have to give Square Enix a hand for being able toget the franchise running as long as it has.

It breaks us—it unmakes us—that its immaculate aspect might reveal itself. The Eikon.

Final Fantasy XVI will release exclusively on the PS5 sometime around the summer of 2023. In the meantime, you can watch out for the next Final Fantasy entry, Crisis Core – Final Fantasy VII – Reunion, coming this winter.
