The Resident Evil series has evolved a lot over the years. The game went from your cliché zombie game, to one of the biggest survival/horror games out there. There have been many that grew up with this chilling game, but over the years, it hasn’t been a stranger to errors, bugs, and issues. Like so, the newest installment – Resident Evil Village has a few quirks, but many have reported launch errors.
How to Fix Launch Error – Resident Evil Village
To start this off, please make sure that you posses the minimum necessary requirements to run Resident Evil Village. Also, make sure that you’re running on the latest version of your operating system, whether that is Stadia or Windows.
If the issue is still persistent, you can start trying out fixes from the list below.
Verify Integrity of Game Files
Whenever a certain launch error is in question, many wonder whether that has something to do with the install. Quite frankly, there is a good chance that it does.
To see whether you have properly installed Resident Evil Village, or fix some corrupted or missing files, follow the steps:
- Open Steam and go to your Library.
- Find Resident Evil Village and right-click it.
- Go to Properties, then Local Files.
- Click ‘Verify integrity of game files’ (the process shouldn’t take longer than 30 minutes at most).
Try to launch the game to see whether that has fixed the issue. If not, continue with the other fixes.
Controlled Folder Access
Controlled folder access might block the game from reading or writing on certain files, which might lead to launch errors. To add an exclusion, open the Start menu and search for: ‘Controlled Folder Access’.
Click ‘Allow an app through Controlled Folder Access’ > ‘Add an allowed app’ > ‘Browse all Apps’. Find the Resident Evil Village executable file and select it.
Run as Administrator
Resident Evil Village might not have the right permission, hence why the issue is persistent. To fix that, you just need to launch it as administrator.
Simply, right-click on the shortcut icon of the game, hit Properties > Compatibility, and then make sure ‘Run as administrator’ and ‘Disable Fullscreen Optimizations’ are selected. Hit Apply and then OK.
Update the Game
Sometimes, out-of-date versions of a game won’t launch or will have some issues. This is because updates are fundamental these days, and developers are pushing everyone to the latest version of the game, which, on average, is stabler, with less bugs, new additions, etc.
The point is that, an old version of a game might also cause all sorts of problems. So, update the game and try again.
