Are you looking to level up, or Masterwork, some of your Destiny 2 gear? Or do you have your eye on an Exotic you’d like to purchase from the Monument to Lost Lights? If so, you’re going to need a specific kind of currency to do both those things. With that, here’s how to get Ascendant Shards in Destiny 2.
Ascendant Shards come from a few sources
The easiest way to nab yourself an Ascendant Shard is to visit the Gunsmith in the Tower. He sells these for 10 Enhancement Prisms, 100 random Planetary Materials (like the Dusklight Shard shown here), and 50,000 Glimmer. Why do these Shards seem so expensive, you ask? Because you’re really not meant to have a stockpile of them. In fact, you can only hold 10 at any given moment.
There is another path, though, if you’re willing to grind it out. This one will give you an Ascendant Shard at absolutely no cost.
The Season Pass in Destiny 2 typically has a number of opportunities for you to earn Ascendant Shards. In Season of the Splicer, you can find Shards at Tiers 80, 85, and 94. Those are pretty deep into the Season Pass, which means you’ll really have to work for them.
Once you get them, though, you’re free to use them as you please. You can Masterwork weapons or armor with them (and some other currencies, of course). You can also hit up that Monument to Lost Lights mentioned earlier and buy some Exotic weapons (though you will need Spoils of Conquest if you want old Raid Exotics).
With that, though, you should have all the info you need in terms of how to get Ascendant Shards in Destiny 2. Now that you know all the different places you can find them, you can get to work improving and better outfitting your Destiny 2 character.
