If you’re the proud (or not-so-proud) owner of a Peloton Tread+ or Tread, the company behind the connected treadmills would like a word with you. It’s about refunds. After an initial scuffle with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Peloton is now going along with a recall, according to TechCrunch.
The Tread+ in particular has been the subject of quite a bit of scrutiny recently with regard to its safety. A CPSC report linked the treadmill to “70 incidents in total,” TechCrunch reported, including one death. The recall for the Tread+ warns that “Adult users, children, pets and objects can be pulled underneath the rear of the treadmill, posing a risk of injury or death.” The Tread, meanwhile, is a risk because “The touchscreen on the treadmill can detach and fall.”
The Peloton recall impacts about 126,050 of the products sold in the U.S. and “an additional 5,400 in Canada.” If you have either the Tread+ or the Tread in your home, you can reach out to Peloton about a potential refund via this page on the company’s website. Both a phone number and a live chat button can be found at the bottom.
