It sure has been a while, hasn’t it? If you’re a die-hard KonoSuba fan, you know exactly what we’re talking about. The show’s first season aired in 2016. The second came and went in 2017. Dubs for English-speaking audiences followed after that, but a KonoSuba Season 3 never came. The KonaSuba well has essentially dried up. People want to know: will there be a third season of the show? Is that something you can at least hold out hope for?
Here’s the scoop on what we know about KonoSuba Season 3 so far.
It’s not looking good at the moment
We are not sellers of false hope here at Gizjo. We don’t want to get you excited about Season 3 coming when, in reality, Season 2 is likely the last you’ve seen of KonaSuba — at least for a while.
What makes us say this? Well, in a February 2019 Reddit AMA, producer Junichiro Tamura fielded a question about KonoSuba Season 3 and stated that a third season “has a good chance if the movie does well.” The movie he was referring to, of course, was the KonoSuba release with a title so long that it really deserves to be on its own line:
KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! Legend of Crimson.
That film released in Japan in August 2019 and came to the U.S. later in November. Since then, it’s been radio silence.
Judging by its IMDb score, Legend of Crimson certainly fared pretty well with those who watched it. Unfortunately, it may not have hit the viewership numbers necessary to justify a continuation of the KonoSuba anime series. There is the whole COVID-19 pandemic to take into consideration, as that has really thrown a bunch of media production companies for a loop. You have to believe, though, that if KonoSuba was coming back to TV, someone would have said something about it in the past two years.
It would be great if KonoSuba got a third season. For the sake of your heart, however, you should probably assume you’ve seen the last of it as an anime series.
