Very few studios manage to branch out from movies to games like WB and Disney, but it looks like horror specialist Blumhouse is going to be taking that jump.

M3GAN Studio Blumhouse Launches Game Division

According to IGN, the studio behind movies like M3GAN, Paranormal Activity, and Get Out has launched Blumhouse Games; which is going to be lead by industry vets Don Sechler (CFO) and Zach Wood (President).

Blumhouse president Abhijay Prakash says in a statement:

“For some time we have been looking to build out a team to start accessing the growth opportunity in interactive media. When we sat with Zach and Don they articulated an approach that resonated with Blumhouse’s model and we knew it was a perfect place for us to start our push into the interactive space… With their experience, sensibility and knowledge of the gaming marketplace Zach and Don are the ideal leaders to leverage Blumhouse’s unique genre strengths into gaming.”

No official roster for games have been announced for Blumhouse, but it’s said that the studio is looking to produce indie games with a budget of about $10 million—pretty much their same strategy when it comes to making their films, which are low-budget box office draws.

If anything, I think this could open up the studio for more tie-in games with their established properties. I don’t know if they could milk a game out of Get Out or Insidious, but I think it’s pretty easy to get a movie out of a franchise like The Purge. How about a dance game with M3GAN? Who says it all has to be horror?

We don’t know what the first game from Blumhouse Games will be, but maybe we can get something by next year.
