How To Play Nitara in Mortal Kombat 1

Nitara was a fighter introduced in the 3D era of Mortal Kombat, and she hasn’t appeared in any of the games since MK: Armageddon. Still, with Megan Fox voicing the character for Mortal Kombat 1, the vampires are getting more attention from players this time.

Like every other character in the base roster, Nitara also has a very specific playstyle, and it will take some practice to master how she flies around the arena, dishing combos and sucking blood out of her enemies.

Nitara’s Mortal Kombat 1 Lore

Nitara was a character introduced in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, and her last appearance in the game was Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. Nitara is a vampire with a thirst for blood and weakness for the sun.

In the game, Nitara aligns herself with the sorcerer Quan Chi, who had helped her vampiric race separate from Outworld so they could be free from the effects of the sun. Though she’s generally neutral to the conflict with Lord Liu Kang and Shang Tsung, it’s said that Nitara’s main purpose is to move her starving people back into Outworld so they could fest on the blood of the locals.

As for the behind-the-scenes story, the biggest hook with the Nitara character is that she has the face and voice of Megan Fox. Not only does the character feel like it’s harkening to Fox’s role in the horror film Jennifer’s Body, but Nitara’s previous “sexy vampire pirate” appearance from the earlier games seems to lean in on Fox’s status as a sex symbol. Talk about meta-casting.

NOTE: Since the different platforms use different buttons for specific commands, this guide will use the number system frequently used in the MK community. Here’s the breakdown:

Nitara casts a Blood Sacrifice circle in Mortal Kombat 1

Blood Sacrifice

Generally, Nitara has no projectile moves as she is the projectile, but she also has this neat trick with Blood Sacrifice. What Blood Sacrifice does is Nitara casts a blood circle on the floor, and casting your Bad Blood to move within it will cause damage over time.

Casting an enhanced Blood Sacrifice will also allow you to draw health from your enemy whenever you’re close, so it’s ideal to cast that and punish the enemy while also drawing more health from them thanks to Blood Sacrifice.

Be careful, though, as you will have to sacrifice some of your health to cast Blood Sacrifice, so it’s advised not to cast it when your health is low. Using it properly will let you deal some serious damage, though.

It’s also worth noting that you can only cast the Blood Bolt when you’re in the Blood Sacrifice circle, and this will grant Nitara at least one solid projectile move.

Tips on Mastering Nitara in Mortal Kombat 1

With Nitara having wings, she designed them to keep her opponents in the air and be most effective when she’s not touching the ground. Master the way she can navigate the arena with her wings, which will keep opponents guessing what your move will be.

Since she also doesn’t have too many projectile moves, it’s suggested that the kameos picked for her will be able to cover her in that area. You can even use Sub-Zero to stop them in their tracks while Nitara does a quick dash toward them.

Also, don’t forget that Blood Sacrifice is a nifty move, but you shouldn’t cast it when you’re low on health because it takes some of your existing HP.
