How to Perform Brutalities in Mortal Kombat 1
To perform a Brutality, the player must input specific moves as the last moves that will defeat the opponent. The player must perform these moves in the final round before the “FINISH HIM/HER” prompt appears.
Brutalities are finishers that enable the player to perform a long and quick combo to defeat the enemy. They differ from the iconic Fatalities the player must perform during the “FINISH HIM/HER” prompt. If that prompt has already appeared, it is too late to perform a Brutality. Brutalities occur when the player, or the player’s Kameo, ends a fight with a certain attack or combo that annihilates the enemy’s body.
There are specific Brutalities that the player can perform for each of the characters in the game. To know what to input to perform Brutalities, pause mid-game and head to the “MOVE LIST” section. Press the X button on this screen to view the full move list.
Press the L1 or R1 buttons to reach the “FINISHERS” tab. Next, you will find a prompt at the bottom of the screen that says “ADVANCED VIEW.” Press the Square button to open it; it will show more details on the Brutalities and how to do them. This menu will show step-by-step directions on how to complete the attacks at the last moment of the fight. These directions are in the “Notes” section at the bottom right of the screen.
Initially, the player has to unlock the other Brutalities for each character in the game. Read the requirements in the “Notes” section for each one. If done correctly, the player can use Brutalities to have exciting ways to end a match.
The Klassic
Some of the Brutalities in the game are harder to perform than others. There is one Brutality. However, that is common to every Mortal Kombat 1: The Klassic character. This Brutality is an uppercut that will break the enemy’s head off.
To perform The Klassic, the player must press the down-directional and Triangle buttons. Hold down the Triangle button for a short while after that. Again, this attack should be the last attack before defeating the enemy, and the “FINISH HIM/HER” prompt appears.
How to Unlock All Brutalities in Mortal Kombat 1
To unlock the other Brutalities in Mortal Kombat 1, the player must continuously raise the character’s Master Rank. To achieve this, the player must use the character in online matches, Invasions, and Towers, except for the Kampaign. The chosen character will get more XP if the player performs more in certain modes, such as achieving Flawless Victories and using special finishers.
Mastery will rise as the character obtains XP. This will grant the player new character cosmetics and new Brutalities and Fatalities. Every character, excluding The Klassic, will receive new Brutalities upon reaching Master Rank 3, Master Rank 5, Master Rank 7, Master Rank 10, and Master Rank 15.
Kameo characters also have their own unique Brutalities. To unlock them, the player must also raise their Master Rank. The Brutalities of Kameo characters are unlocked at Master Rank 2 and Master Rank 11.
