With Kratos being able to join the ranks of Mortal Kombat, some fans are wondering which other franchise heroes could cross over to MK. One fan had requested they bring in Last of Us protagonist Ellie into the fray, but NetherRealm head Ed Boon isn’t going to have it.

Mortal Kombat Head Refuses to Put Ellie in a Future MK Game

Replying to a fan on Twitter, Boon posts:

With the Mortal Kombat franchise being all about silly B-movie violence, it would admittedly be too weird to bring in Ellie, the lead of one of the most serious and dark game franchises, into a martial arts game.

Yes, The Last of Us series did reference Mortal Kombat II in several episodes, but it admittedly would be too weird to watch Ellie get her head torn off in an over-the-top fatality.

I mean, if they really want to bring in the character, maybe they can make it some kind of skin for an existing character. I mean, Cassie Cage was able to get a Harley Quinn skin, so maybe they can make her Ellie as well? How about Johnny Cage getting a Joel skin?

For now, Mortal Kombat 12 is said to be in development with the studio aiming to release it this year. We haven’t had any official updates or announcements yet, so some fans are remaining skeptical about a 2023 release. With a whole new roster expected, I wonder which characters NetherRealm will be allowed to take from the WB IP. You think LeBron James would be down for an MK appearance?

Mortal Kombat 12 has not been officially announced.
