Spider-Man 2 may have taken the spotlight with last week’s PlayStation Showcase, but everyone was hoping for an update from Naughty Dog—which was a bummer since the studio didn’t make any reveals.

Naughty Dog Updates on Being Absent from the PlayStation Showcase

The disappointment from fans was apparent online, and Naughty Dog has released a statement updating on why they didn’t tease anything during the PS Showcase. Here’s the post:

Essentially, there are two Naughty Dog reveals that fans were hoping for, and that was an update on The Last of Us multiplayer game as well as the reveal for The Last of Us Part III. Though we did get a small update on the multiplayer title, the announcement does tease a brand new single-player experience, which is implied to be a completely new IP which isn’t set in the world of The Last of Us.

What are the odds that it’s a return to the world of Jak & Daxter, because a lot of fans have been wanting for an update on that franchise for years. With the franchise leaning in more on realistic games though, I think Naughty Dog has put the studio’s ‘mascot games’ behind; but as a fan of those Jak games, I would definitely love to come back to the world with the modern capabilities of the PS5.

We don’t know when Naughty Dog plans to make their official announcement, but hopefully we get the update before the year ends. In the meantime, you can still check out some solid titles like The Last of Us and Uncharted now available for the PlayStation.
