Every New Item Added in Minecraft 1.20 Update
Within the Minecraft 1.20 update comes a list of features that will add more gameplay challenges for newbies and veteran players. It will see a collection of the newest items in Minecraft, with some aesthetic additions and new mobs. And it has been a while since an update came with this many new items. Here are all of the new items in the Minecraft 1.20 Trails & Tales update:
1. Pottery shards
Pottery shards are new archaeological items that have entered the game. They spawn as hidden objects inside the new suspicious sand blocks. Instead of mining or breaking them, you have to use a brush tool to unveil these pottery shards to collect them.

Pottery shards are used to make unique decorative pots in Minecraft. Since each pottery shard only reflects one face of the pot, you can use any type of pottery shard while making a pot. Once you find at least four pottery shards, you simply need to combine them on a crafting table.
2. Brush Tool
This item was announced a while back with the Caves & Cliffs update, an archeology feature that allows Minecraft players to use a brush on suspicious sand and gravel blocks to reveal the items inside. The brush is a useful tool for players in the upcoming archeology feature. You can easily craft it using copper ingots, feathers, and sticks.
Like other tools in Minecraft, brushes have durability points that decrease upon usage. Players can repair two brushes by putting them on a crafting table to craft a more durable brush. Enchantments like the Unbreaking, Mending, and Curse of Vanishing enchantments can also be applied to brushes in the game.
The application for the enchantments works the same way as regular tools such as pickaxes and shovels, as brushes can be used on both an anvil and an enchanting table.
3. Smithing template
Smithing Templates are perhaps the most interesting thing from the new Minecraft update. These templates can alter the appearance of tools and armor and give players more control over their looks when wearing armor.
The smithing templates can be found from various sources, so players are ready for adventure. These smithing templates show a different look, but they require a fair amount of materials, whether that’s the useful Redstone, emeralds, or something rarer and more expensive like netherite.
The smithing template is a new item that can be used to create armor with designs and also upgrade diamond items, tools, and weapons to netherite. There are seventeen smithing templates, one of which is the netherite upgrade template, and the rest are armor trim templates.
These are uncraftable but can be duplicated using seven diamonds on the crafting table. Players will find templates in the loot chests of various structures, such as bastions.
4. Pitcher pod and torchflower seeds
As an adult, Sniffers will wander around and occasionally catch the scent of something underground, assuming it is standing on any grass, dirt, moss, or mud block. Its head will tilt towards the ground as it searches. Eventually, it will dig when it finds what it is looking for.
Currently, they can dig up one of two items: Torchflower Seeds or Pitcher Pods. Torchflower Seeds can be used to breed Sniffers. So once you’ve hunted up two in ruins, you can just breed them from then on. Pitcher Pods, meanwhile, can be planted to grow into two-block-tall Pitcher Plants. You obtain Pitcher Plants by planting and eventually harvesting Pitcher Pods.
Currently, Pitcher Plants have no functionality in Minecraft. They must be placed on a farmland tile and have a water source within four blocks. Two ancient plants (that do not grow naturally), the pitcher plant and the torchflower, are also part of this update.
Sniffers can dig out pitcher pods and torch flower seeds that can be used to grow them. Players will find themselves doing this often, as sniffers are rare and do not spawn independently. Torchflower seeds are more functional as they can also be used to breed sniffers.
The latest Minecraft update has brought a wealth of new content and features to the game, offering players an even more immersive and engaging experience. From introducing new biomes and structures to adding unique items and mobs, the update has expanded the game’s already impressive scope and provided players with exciting new challenges to play.
Whether you’re a veteran player or just starting, there’s never been a better time to dive into Minecraft. With its endless possibilities and limitless potential, Minecraft continues to be one of the most beloved and enduring games ever.
